Devil Forge US Adapter?

Just picked up a DFS from Devil Forge and wondering if anyone who has one knows where to source the proper CGA 510 adapter for a standard US LPG tank.

Tried going right to the source, but they're of very little help.

I've gotten 510 adapters at Oxarc before. Don't remember what the cost was, that was maybe 10 years ago.

Any decent welding supply should be able to hook you up. But, what is the thread type on the forge connection?

Thanks Salem.

Just went down to the local gas/welding place and they didn't have anything that would fit.

Looks like I'll just keep throwing cash at it till I find the right one. Gonna try the one you linked on ebay next. Already tried one from there, but it was just slightly oversized by maybe 2mm. Pain the arse, for sure. And the best the guys at DF can offer is, "here's a picture, buy this". Ah well.

If I understand your question, what you want to do is convert the regulator to a standard US propane tank? If so, just remove the fitting on the current regulator and replace it with one that fits the propane tank. It probably has a 1/4" pipe thread on the regulator. Any good welding shop should have what you need. Take the regulator with you.
Also check with the local LP gas supplier. http://www.yellowpages.com/mount-pocono-pa/propane-natural-gas

"Good" Welding Shop being the difficult part. If I'm being honest, the people I spoke to yesterday seemed more like career meth-users than tradesmen.

I was actually thinking of replacing the regulator altogether as you mentioned, but I figured "Hey, it's built this way for a reason by smarter men than you". That's gonna be my next step if the adapter I have on order doesn't sort me out.

Thanks for the response, Stacy. All this headache for a few ounces of mokume. :)

Yeah, so that part didn't fit either Salem. I'm fully convinced that the adapter required isn't sold stateside. I've contacted/visited 6 different propane and welding supply companies and they're all scratching their heads. Every CGA510/POL adapter we've tried has been slightly undersized for the fitting on the regulator.

So I've just gone out and purchased a new one altogether. Skived out the inner diameter of the hose to fit the burner and it's good to go, so happy about that. Can't say I'd recommend dealing with Devil Forge, though. The product itself does have a good value for the cost, but the customer service and "you're on your own" attitude leaves a lot to be desired.

Thanks again for the help guys. Sincerely appreciated. Now perhaps I can make a nice necklace for the wife.

Sorry, man. Like I said that was really a guess on my part.
I'm glad you worked out a solution though. You are right, those devil forge folks could be a lot less vague about that fitting.

Oh no worries at all, man. The suggestion is still appreciated. I've been lucky enough to not have to throw money at things to make them work(and smash my head into the wall in the process) very often. I was due for it. :D All's well that ends well.

Without seeing EXACTLY what you have I can't say for sure: however, I bet that your regulator or other supplied parts are NOT NPT tapered threads but straight threads. Most of Europe and the Orient use straight threads with a fitting that has a face seal.

Hey altofsky I just received my devil forge from them too and am having the same issue with the bushing not fitting the american propane tank. Was wondering exactly what you had to do to fix it and which new regulator and where you got? Thanks

Hey stacey yea i viewed his profile and he hasnt been active for about a year. so for future reference and as a guide for anyone that has this issue as well i will post the solution here
The Devil Forge company last month released this youtube video on how to modify the american parts to the regulator that was sent with the forge the parts you need are

NUT CGA-510; NIPPLE CGA-500510580590 <<<<<< USA parts to modify Devil Forge regulator for propane tank.

here is the instructional video on how to complete this process and get you guys set up and ready to forge;

I gave up and purchased the High Pressure LPG M5HPR1 10 PSI from Lowe's along with a couple of adapters to hook it up to my line and it works great. Haven't had any problems with it what so ever. Went nuts looking for what they recommenced. I think it's due to a language problem.
