I have been following the tempering thread and although I mostly do simple steel damascus like 1095/nickel or 1095/15N20 and 5160. I have ordered some of the 19C27 and want to start using it for my "plain blades" I haver been looking at dewars on Ebay. What size is recommended? Does it just need to have a wide enough lid to get my blank in. Not into huge blades maybe a foot at most. Thanks Jim

I'd go with a 33 liter dewar. The 10 liters are kind of small. A 33 will do long blades without a problem. Something to consider, though, is cost. Aside from the initial cost of the dewar, it costs $64 to fill my 44 liter. Now I usually do 30-50 blades in it on one batch of LN, but the stuff isn't cheap and it evaporates in 3 weeks or so. You'll need to plan ahead to get the most blades done with a fill up that you can. Otherwise it's cheaper to send them to Paul Bos.
