How To Dexron VI Versus Dexron III for hardening

Are you talking about transmission fluid for "quenching"?
I would highly suggest a commercial quench oil like Parks 50 or AAA, depending on what alloy you are quenching. But if you just want something to get started, seeing as you just joined today and this is your first post, canola oil warmed up to about 120° is much preferred over motor oils and transmission fluid.

As Stuart pointed out, transmission fluid is a poor quench oil. There is a concern about the possibly toxic vapors coming from transmission fluid in quenching. A commercial quenchant is far better and will last much longer. Canola oil is a good starting quenchant for many people.
You need at least a gallon of whatever oil you choose to quench any size knife, and two gallons is a better choice. Many of us use 5 gallon or larger quench tanks.
