DGI's Knife Log

Im a sucker for a trade opportunity!

Posted some knives for sale on a firearm forum I frequent and opportunity knocked!

A regular from the forum was interested in my NIB Benchmade 761, he offered a Les George - Wilson Combat "Eagle" for trade plus some cash on my end. After some research, i decided I wanted to check it out! Never knew about this knife until yesterday! Now I cant wait to receive it!

This puppy looks great!

Tried my hand at knife wrenchin' tonight.

Bought a set of Putman scales and an ebay backspacer/pocket clip and got them installed on my PM2. Pretty straight forward. Unfortunately now theres a bit of lock stick happening. Is this normal? Will it go away?

Overall happy with the parts quality. I should have chosen a different color for the backspacer and clip though. Oh well

Great to meet you too my friend! The 228 is awesome!!! Ive already swapped out the thumb studs for a set of Chaves studs and they fee great... I was actually going to post today as I boxed it up and its headed to CA for a "spa treatment" to a well known knife tuner from Instagram. It'll look a bit different when it returns!

A little before action:

Great to hear. Those studs look much more comfortable. I'm very interested to see how the new customization turns out!

Two weeks and you may not recognize it! I'll update as I get progress reports.

Let me know about that Redencion ;-)

Thanks!

Today im debating if a Shirogorov F3 will make me happy or if I should hold of for a 95T...

Anyone have any opinions either way?

Ended up buying a Shirogorov F3 with pen tool this morning from a forum member. Photobucket is down but I cant wait to get this sucker in. Very excitied!

3D Carbon scales, M390 Blade.

Todays purchase: Chris Reeve Umnumzaan Tanto with Old Pivot! One of my grail CRKs have been found! Its all downhill from here.

Im seriously debating selling off my two Striders as a result of really loving my CRKs lately. Too much money tied up in my knife pouch lately haha

Your making me feel better about the money I spend on knives lol.

Nice collection and enjoy yourself.

Congratulations on the child

HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM...

Three arrivals today.

CRK TNK Umnumzaan Tanto with old pivot
Benchmade Stryker in M4 steel
Shirogorov F3 with 3D carbon scales and M390 Steel.

The CRK and Benchmade are everything i've come to expect from these companies. Solid, pretty, feels great in hand. The M4 steel should impress me down the road, if everything I've read online proves to be true.

What is causing me internal turmoil, and I've only experienced this knife for the past hour or so, is this Shirogorov.... WOW. Whatever I thought I knew about knife "perfection" is all wrong. THIS IS IT. Excellent feel in hand, flipping action, weight, balance, build quality. I need more... I must have more. I originally wanted a 95T but really liked the review the F3 had online as "filling the hand more" and I have big hands. Now I cant wait to find and receive a 95T! My F3 came with a pen tool as well so I'm ready to expand my collection!

Updates!

Chaves 228 is on its way back from its Spa Treatment! If pictures are an indication, I'm going to be blown away...

I picked up a Chaves 325 Megalodon from a local member. Its smaller than I usually like but it fills the hand very well. I need practice deploying one handed but as it breaks in I have a feeling it'll be quite the EDC blade. Once the 228 comes home I may send the 325 out to have it made to look like its big brother.

Im selling a couple knives on here and almost traded for a Hinderer XM-18. I've never really been intrigued by these knives until this trade came up. It unfortunately fell through but I think I'd like to pursue one after all. Not sure of which blade steel to go after but I really like the way the 3.5" Spanto blade looks. Also found an Eklipse model for sale that looks even more bad ass. We'll see which way I end up going.

Knife buying needs to be put on hold for a while. Also my storage needs to be re-evaluated. The Spyderco bag works ok but I'd like something less abrasive when sliding the knives in and out. Not sure I want the bulk of a Nalpak Pelican case though.

Pics of 228 and 325 incoming

Its been a busy couple of days.

My 228 has arrived, and I'm blown away. The blade finish and regrind, orange peel/polished scales and function is excellent! Mr Campbell will be working on plenty of my knifes from here on out.

Speaking of my knives. I ended up adding two more and trading one off. I picked up a Hinderer Eklipse and a Redencion (#143) and traded my SMF NSN for a one off Digicam SNG CC with carbon Scale. I know there can absolutely be no more purchases for a couple months but I think with these last incoming pieces I'll be good to go for quite a while.

Wow, you have been busy. Congratulations on the custom Redencion, that is epic!

The 228 looks great, and I really dig the orange peel! I like the looks of the skull crusher you had added too, you really customized it quite nicely I think. You'll have to let me know if you end up hurting your hand on the skull crusher after you use it for a while, I like the look but I have wondered if it would lead to injury when quickly pulling the knife from your pocket. Regardless, let me know when you're ready to sell that bad boy back to me. :)

Thanks man, It wont be leaving my collection anytime soon but I appreciate the offer :)

What number is your Redencion again? I've reached out to Ramon's shop to see what the difference between "generations" are but havent gotten any answers back. I understand they switched to bearings at some point but also cant find any concrete answers.

FedEx package from Hawaii came today. Im impressed, i'm in love, I need to stay the hell off the internet.

#143 Redencion

I initially wanted to make the custom match my Midtech but we'll see. I really like the finish on the scales as is so I'll have to think about that. The back spacer shape is excellent but the color isnt something im crazy about (its a turquoise shade). I was thinking about acid stone washing the blade and getting a rock pattern back spacer in gold with a matching pocket clip. Im not sure if i'll have Ramon take care of this for me or send it to Sean like I did with the 228. If Ramon would engrave the new backspacer then it'll definitely go to him.

I've been stuck at work and need to get a couple knives in the mail so hopefully today I can make it to the post office. Ive also been debating on limiting my scope of collecting to a couple brands. I'm very happy with my Chris Reeve knives, my Chaves knives, Shirogorovs and Spydercos. The rest I feel fall somewhere between those four brands and I'm tempted to start selling more off.
