I am now in stage 3, in which I need at least 1 new (or old) stockman per day. It's not pretty on Sundays (no mail)...

Just follow the pretty colors:D

I need to find me one of those 896K's they are just so purdy, I like the shape of the master blade too.

Afficionados of the punch stockman: What do you find yourselves using the punch for?

Punching holes in leather. I ride Horses, so I'm around leather tack often. I have a dream, to make a 2 layer knife with a hoof pick, blade, flathead screwdriver and punch. I know I can get one custom (maybe) but i don't have the cake right now. These 4 tools would take care of 90% of my needs around horses.

But, there's a local knife only show this coming weekend, with LOTS of slipjoints available,

Danbo, When and where is this knife show? I'd love to stop in myself! Any info would be appreciated.

Do you know if such a knife was ever made? I have seen on ebay a knife that had a punch, hoof pick, and blade, but no screwdriver. It seems all a manufacturer would have to do --if they wanted to--is to add a hoof pick to a boy scout pattern. It would probably be pretty thick, though.

Queen makes a farrier's knife (horseman's knife) that has a pick, punch and clip blade. It has no screwdriver, though-this may be the one you've seen. Victorinox makes an equestrian with a pick, reamer, combo tool screwdriver, and blade, but it also has a corkscrew, a saw and something else. It's a little big, and I keep it on my latigo strap in a sheath. I was hoping that you couldvcram those 4 tools into a big congress, or an equal end pattern maybe. I was even thinking about taking the can opener out of a vic soldier and putting a hoof pick in its place, but it would requre me to sacrifice 2 knives, and I don't know if it'll fit. I even asked at sosak, and nobody else knew.

I have all kinds of diseases, fortunately none of them are the itchy kind...

Winchesteritis, Cheapcustomulosis, gooddealmelanoma, gunmoneyonnorea, etc...

Any way, for you guys interested in a Farrier's knife, check with Gary Crowder. He's a retired Farrier and makes a heck of a slipjoint, I'm sure you could tell him what you want and he could put it together based on his knowledge of the trade. If you do, I'd like to see pictures afterwards and maybe order one for myself :)

WOW!! New member here but this thread makes me feel at home already. Schrade/Imperial makes up about 70% of my collection and the stockman is my favorite pattern. I have "suffered" from this ailment for 30+ years and can tell you with total honesty that it may go into remission but is incurable.

I use the punch blade as a mini pry bar, as well as a hole punch. Just about everything I use it for could probably be performed by a knife blade, but I do find myself going for that punch a lot. I use it to poke holes in food cans to get rid of the vacuum so the food (like chili) comes out easier. I use it to pry open paint cans, plastic spackel containers etc. It's also great for getting tight knots untied since you don't have to worry about cutting the line inadvertently.

It really seems like a handy thing to have in a knife, especially when combined with a versatile combination of blades, as in the stockman.
