Hey i am new to this particular sub forum, and I just completed my first straight razor, so I am looking at getting some diamond (or cubic boron nitride) compound for my strop. But I dont know anything about it. I want as fine as possible so 1/4 micron, or .1 micron, but I dont know whether to get a spray or a paste, oil or water soluble, and I dont know anything about any of the brands. So I need help. Thanks so much

I would recommend either directly from Ken Schwartz as they have a much hither concentration of diamonds than the competition. They are highly recommended by many. You can pick then up down to the micron size you want from Wicked Edge's website.

Holy crap! .025 micron! Is that really practical? 1. can you effectivly get to that level of sharpness without going through many different pastes and strops, and hours of effort, and 2. Does it really hold an edge long enough to even tell a difference? One pass on my face and that super fine edge would probably be gone, no?

Now I have no idea what size to get I think .025 is too fine, and 1 micron is to big, but anywhere inbetween I really don't know anymore. Could I just use the bare leather?

You need to shave some. One pass and the edge is not gone if using a decent straight razor. You really don't need any slurry on your strop to get a good shaving edge. I've shaved for years with a straight and arrived at a good edge by stropping on a quality strop (plain leather). After, the razor came off a ceramic stone of near 2K grit. A canvas or linen strop is also needed. DM

Right so I got a pretty good shave with pink buffing compound on a leather strop, but I know I can do better than that. 25 nm abrasive though kinda blows my mind. Im still gathering the pieces.

well im coming to grips with the different sizes, but I still dont know about paste vs spray.
