Can anyone tell me what kind of steel is in concrete diamond blades. And is it worth making knife blades. I stumbled across a boat load of them anywhere from 1/8" to 1/4" thick and up to 48" dia.
metaltest in oregon will analyze them for a very reasonable price... I have piles of 12" and 14", had one brand tested, unfortunately low carbon. They harden in water but I doubt mine would make good blades, should have enough to use as siding on my shed though
you might have better luck with yours, esp the thicker ones
I had a concrete cutting company drop off about twenty of them several years back. The test showed that the C was about .35 to .40. Too low to do anything with. They do look great on the wall, though.
BTW,If you need a end plate for a forge, that steel will work fine. Or use the big ones for a base plate for a portable post vise or buffer.
