OK guys- I hear you talking about these " diamond sprays" and am asumming this is for stropping ? In other words spraying different " grits" onto a piece of leather? - and then drawing your blade across it ? I am also hearing of different leather? And lastly something to do with using felt ? Is all of this strictly for putting the finished edge on the blade ? Lastly- how about pictures and where to purchase. All info is much appreciated. I have gleaned more knowledge off of this board than any others on the web, Very much appreciated-Thanks:thumbup:

I believe Hand American is the vendor. I obtain Hand American compressed leather at Wood Craft. Wood Craft is a retail wood workers store. It is like a Home Depot Tool Corral on steroids. Wood Craft sells Hand American product, as possible Rockler or other wood working retail shops. I believe one poster opined that Hand American products are great, but the service is sometimes slower than he wants it to be. I am gonna load my HA leather paddle strop (home made) with some diamond spray and have fun. However, I also use the Razor Sharp paper wheels, and really enjoy how fast this product gets your blades shaving sharp with just a few passes on the wheels. I also agree about the quality of knowledge here. No other place for me.

Also look HERE, excellent product and great service. You'll find some info on using felt for deburring and stropping, along with diamond spray.

Ive had much better luck with the diamond on felt than on leather as well. For me, I stick to the Chromium Oxide on leather, or bare leather depending on what I'm going for. That being said, 1 mic diamond on felt is a GREAT initial strop to do that last bit of deburring and get a great polish started. Most knives go from 1 mic on hard felt, to .5 CrO on leather, to bare leather. Sometimes if I'm really shooting for a buttery smooth polish I'll throw in .25 mic diamond on hard felt b/w the the two leathers.

All right Ryan and CB, you guys are a piece of work!

I just ordered from Japaneseknifesharpening store.................:p
Ordered on line at 9:15 am Pacific time on Jan 28th. I will let you know when it hits the mail box. I would have ordered through HA, but we will see how this works out instead.

Diamond spray and chromium oxide powder. I have to make some new strops, so I will put the green on one, and wait for some more money for the felt and keep the diamond spray for that. I may also make a leather strop for the diamond spray in the mean time.

I received my HandAmerican diamond spray last night and could not be happier. Keith is a really good guy and threw in Felt, Leather and a Ceramic rod wrapped in leather for me to field test.. Cannot get much better than that!!

I tested the spray last night on 4 knives that needed a touch up. One of them I just could never seem to get scary sharp.. Well, now it is.. The Handamerican diamond took are of that issue.

Good stuff from HandAmerican!!

cj...glad u took our advice....dave(the owner of japaneseknifesharpening) is a great guy to talk to and is full of information....he knows tons about sharpening too and is very open with advice.....i'm sure you'll like it....ryan:thumbup:

I've been using the diamond spray from Hand American for a couple of months now. I did not have much luck with it on leather. I sprayed it on a paint stirring stick/paddle I grabbed at home depot (free). I love the results.

I have been using HA diamond sprays on my knives for a couple of years now, and it is hands down the single best investment for keeping my knives razor sharp......

Does it work best on wood or felt or something else ? Suggestions greatly appreciated-Thanks:thumbup:

It probably works best on MDF/wood then leather then felt. Felt works but not nearly as good as the first two, it has too much give and allows the felt to roll over the edge easily.

My order shipped from Pennsylvania on the 29th. I believe I got my order Tuesday the 2nd approx. 3 pm, when the mail arrives. Nice product, excellent service.

I have brought my sharpening up a notch. I am using diamond spray on a compressed leather strop, and it really makes for a beautiful edge aesthetically, and I can pop hairs all over the place off my arm, but still no whittling, but the hair dances along the blade, so I know I am close. I may try the paint stick method.

Hey cj65, glad you got it. Dave works pretty hard at customer service, and I like the fact that he uses what he sells, so he's able to answer most questions.

I've been following his advice on using the diamond spray / felt in place of leather. So far the results have been impressive. The felt he sells is "rock hard", and combined with the diamond spray, leaves a great edge!

I don't know if you guys are using your knives for food preparation but I did a little research on Chromium oxide and this is what I found. I have not found anything on the diamond sprays yet. http://naturalpigments.com/msds/msds_427-15.htm http://www.lenntech.com/periodic/elements/cr.htm

A good reminder to wipe your knife off before going back to work.

I find paint sticks (and I've tried many) to be inconsistent in their grain quality, smoothness and flatness. Maybe these things are less important when using diamonds, but with chromium oxide I find the cardboard backing of legal pads to be a far superior choice if looking for a leather alternative. I do however use paint stir sticks under PSA backed 3M micro abrasive sheets for field sharpening. But even used like that I'd prefer something with more absolute flateness, like glass.

well everyone basically covered use.

Id start with 1 micron HandAmerican. This will put a hair-whittling edge on any knife.
There is no need to over spray, you wont see the daimonds on the leather, but you will be able to feel your knife getting sharper.

Also, use a HARD piece of leather and SOFT pressure. HandAmerican/woodcraft leather is great.

I didn't know what diamond spray-on was til my visit with Knifenut1013 yesterday.
We wiped off the "green stuff' I had on my 2-sided mini strop and he loaded it with 3 Micron on one side, and 1 Micron on the other.
The result is a knife that I just don't need to be any sharper.
Jason is very good about the "whys" of things, as well as showing you the "how to".
I'm sold.....I'll have an order into HandAmerica soon....
