Diamond stone set recommendations?

Where is the best place to buy diamond stones?
Just about every knife retailer on the internet carries them, as does every woodworking retailer (for chisels). And the overwhelmingly huge internet store if you must.
There is a store specifically for Sharpening Supplies that is the only place I know of that has a set of 2 double sided 2'x6" DMT stones in a wood case.

Let me qualify that by saying I don't own DMT, DMD, Atoma, etc. So I am in no way saying they aren't good products or that the Ultra Sharp are better products.

I'm just saying that when I went looking for diamond bench stones on a budget, these were recommended and have done well for me. My 300 had a little hitch when new. Like one specific diamond that stuck up a smidge higher than the rest of the plate and I'd feel the catch if I hit it just right. But after a few uses it disappeared.

I don't use these a ton so can't really talk to longevity.

Every one of my DMT plates did the same. The higher the grit, the less noticeable it was. However, now that they're broken in, they're great.

Are these any good? Price seems to good to be....

These are the most durable diamond plates I have used. Barkeepers Friend cleans them like new and even along the edges they hold onto the diamond very well. They need an XC to go with, but for the $ are a solid value.

I got set up with Venev 240/400 and 800/1200 1"x6" dual sided stones. I'll be going back for the 80/150 stone soon. The 240 isn't quite aggressive enough for reprofiling, and I don't often want the mirror polish the 1200 achieves, but these 3 dual stones for right around $100 is a heck of a deal.

Do you use them freehand or on a guided system?

Freehand. I actually sold my wicked edge. I started enjoying freehand sharpening and got to the point I just never bothered with the w.e. any more and sold it. I was using the rods from a Sharpmaker kit and decided to upgrade to diamond stones. I just added the 80/150 grit stone and, man does it grind off metal.
