My mom always liked her books. I finally checked out the latest edition of Roughing it Easy from the library. This is a cool book with lots of home-made equipment ranging from tuna can paraffin burners all the way up to 350 degree solar ovens. Lots of good fire cooking skills with little to no equipment, even cooking bacon and eggs in a paper sack.

Lots of fun and worth finding a copy. I bet she owns stock in an aluminum foil company though as she consumes that pretty fast.

Use a lunch sized paper sack. Cover the bottom of the paper bag in a layer of bacon. Break the egg into the sack over the bacon. Roll the top down in one inch folds. Push a stick throught the roll at the top of the bag. Hold the bag over the coals. Grease will coat the bottom of the bag as it coks. The egg will cook in about 10 minutes. Be careful. If the sack gets too near the coals, it will burn. When done, roll the sides down and eat your breakfast.

The photo shows the stick going through the roll at right angles to the roll, not threaded through the roll itself. Piercing the roll seals the bag and the roll is strong enough to support the weight.
