Richard Proenneke's DVD, Alone In The Wilderness, and, Alaska, Silence and Solitude, are a MUST see. Too, I highly recommend the book One Man's Wilderness, An Alaskan Odyssey, By Sam keith from the journals and photographs of Richard Proenneke.Great stuff.

I watch "Alone in the Wilderness" everytime it's on KET. I love it. How he built that cabin by himself amazes me.
Then again...he was built like a brick shithouse at his age, too.

I once camped at the other end of the two large lakes on which he built that cabin but didn't know about it back then (I was rafting the Chilki). Of course, had I known I might have been bummed by the nearly relentless high winds that would have made it extremely difficult to get a raft to the cabin site from where my group landed. It was a beautiful area and we saw lots of caribou, arctic foxes, Dall sheep, a wolverine, and a few moose.

I sent out a copy of Alone in the Wilderness, Alaska Silence and Solitude, and The Frozen North to another user on here. Perhaps when he's done, he'll send the copies on to other people who might be interested.

I'm interested!

It's a great story, seems like he lived everyone's dream. One author visited him on his 70th birthday, and to celebrate, Dick did 70 chinups in front of him. Yes, he was in extremely good shape, as well as being a master craftsman.

I get a kick out of his viewpoints for the era that he lived in. He had a .357 revolver and a 30-06 rifle. He was attacked by grizzlies several times. One time, in front of his cabin, a grizzly charged, and he scared it off with a shot from the .357. He then went into the cabin for his 30-06, which he referred to as his "heavy artillery". :D

I think it would be every man's dream only if the Swedish Bikini Team was living in the next cabin with no other men around.

I've had the pleasure of watching the DVD and of reading the book as well. Great stuff and some excellent craftsmanship in the cabin and acoutrements.

On the news today it was announced by adobe that there is a virus out right now that is in pdf format
From the above site it might be ok?
But for now i'm not opening any pdfs lol

I would love to view the dvds and the book. If anyone who owns it and might be interested in a passaround I would love to be included.

I agree, a passaround would be wonderful. I don't have a TV anymore, and have been thinking about ordering the set from somewhere. I'd be happy to administrate the passaround, if someone would provide the video.
