Never been in one, but one is opening about 15 minutes from my house soon, those that have been in one, what kind of knives can I expect to find in one?

the dicks by my home is only good for lowend kershaws(leeks, scallions), and a few brownings. hopefully yours will have more, better knives

I have one about 5 minutes from me. Their selection is not very good IMHO. You'll see Leatherman....Gerber...cheap Chinese Buck models. They did have some Kershaws....Leeks.....Chives.....and I think I saw a Cyclone. The had some fixed blades that I didn't recognize. The name didn't seem familiar to you me. I have 4 outdoor sporting goods stores close to me....Dick's, Cabela's, Bass Pro Shop and Gander Mountain. The worst for knives is Dick's. The other three overall are about the same.

The one in my area has a pretty limited/poor selection.

They has a few Buck models (including the 110), some Gerbers, and a bunch of Smith and Wesson knives.

Even the selection at my local Wal-Mart is better, and it's not very good :grumpy:

What you can expect to find is expensive stuff, no matter what you're looking for. Knives, guns, lights, fishing gear, tents, etc... I've not seen any bargains.

In Connecticut I've seen Gerber knives, Leatherman multi-tools, Buck folding and fixed blades, Kershaws, Rappalla (by Martinni (SP)) fillet knives, Winchester knives (chinese), Wenger Swiss Army Knives (including the Standard Issue- I bought mine at Dick's), and Remington branded Chinese made knives in slipjoint and fixed blade form. The Remington slipjoints aren't too bad.

Ditto in Maine (also a few SOGs).

We have one not far from here that I've visited twice in the past 6yrs,the prices are high and the selection is bad.I went in this past winter looking at GPS units and found the same units that they have at the local Walmart.I drive past Dick's to go to Gander Mountain or wait until I visit Pa and go to Cabelas.

If you decide to get anything, I don't know if your home state did this, but Walmarts in PA have a state guidlines magazine in their sporting goods area, with a Dicks coupon for 10 bucks off any 50 or over purchase. If for some odd reason you decide to get something from them, see if your state has put out something like PA did.

I have bought a few Sogs and a couple of Mossberg shotguns at the Dicks in Garden City Long Island and all these were the best price on Long Island ( I looked everywhere first). The Sog knives could be found for $6 dollars cheaper on line as the best online price goes, but they are also $20+ online more than Dick's from other online dealers. I do a ton of freshwater fishing, and I was amazed to find that on SOME lures and tackle Dicks was cheaper than the several Walmarts I shop at.....I think if you know your prices there are some deals there....

I remember when Dick's was still a very small regional sporting goods store chain. Not only was it a meat and potatoes type store, with blue collar gear of all types, many even carried BSA gear. Shortly after Bradshaw invested a ton of money, the stores went national, their hunting/fishing depts. shrunk and the downhill slide started. I still visit Dick's, but I prefer Gander Mountain and even Wal-Mart.

Heck, it's still a cool store, with lots of cool stuff. I still go in there, but I keep hoping to find some clearance stuff, and it just never happens.

At the Dick's near me, it's all crap in a clampack. The store they replaced here had a really good knife area. As strange as it sounds, Dick's sucks.:thumbdn:

I've never seen anybody behind the gun/knife counter at the dicks close to me. I've never had any dicks employee talk to me besides a cashier when I bought a $5 inflatable chair. :jerkit:
Most of the knives are in plastic with some in a display case. Most of the stuff they have is catered towards mall shoppers that don't know what they are buying. Before I moved from Utah I had a Sportsmans Warehouse :D close by, that store had great service and I could spend hours talking to employees about fishing, bows and guns. And they had a decent selection of knives.
