Did Anyone Hear Anything about the ZT-0566 at BLADE?

I really want to know when they are going to be able for purchase, they seem like a really excellent edc knife.

I thought it was pretty nice! I don't like the 0560 myself, but the 0566 feels right in my hand.
I heard early 2014 as a release at Blade, but those release dates always seem subject to change, so just keep on the lookout!

I just watched Gavko's vid and I believe Jen said they were starting to assemble them. Shouldn't be too long.

I am thinking about buying a ZT0200 or 0350 and I would use it for cutting almost only wood (carving) but I am not sure if those heavy duty tactical folders are good at carving.

depends what and how you are carving, also your skill level.

I'd prefer something MUCH thinner in the blade, you don't need to be unreasonably thick for wood work, you need the opposite.

I've done some carving with my spyderco military, but it's far from ideal.

Have you got any opinel knives? They are good at carving but is ZT any near them.

yes,I have opinel and traditional slip joint knives which are what I carve with. what will you be carving?

if you are working landscape construction and just need to do quick, on the fly shaving studs to fit or whatever then a sharp zt would probably be just fine. if you are doing any sort of decorative or detailed carving they will suck.

sure some guys can make really cool things using very unwieldy tools, and they could probably blow us away using a machete to carve with, but for the average person a zt would be a poor choice.

But can they do carving almost as good as opinels. And I will be carving mostly non-dry wood.

What about assisted opening retention.

nobody has a picture?

for the third time, it depends what you are carving. not what wood, but what projects. large figures? ball in cage? spoons? chains? and no, it won't carve anywhere near as good as an opinel. (though the opinel has way to much belly at the tip for me to be considered a very good carver)

IMO I like whittling using whatever I have on me, if I actually wanted the best knife for the job it wouldn't be a pocket knife. so there's always that divide between sheer carving ability, and the joy you get from carrying it.

I'm sure the guys in the whittling thread could use a zt and far outclass me if they wanted.

If you want a good inexpensive folding carver check out the Cold Steel mini tuff lite. I wouldn't carve with a ZT, but that's just me.

Also, look in the projects forum. Carving knife thread, and the whittling thread posted above.
