I just received my Carbon Fiber Large 21 from Knife Art today (Love the knife BTW :D) and noticed the thumb lug design on the backside is different form my standard Large 21 (birth-date Oct 2011). Did CRK recently change the design?

First I have seen of that design.

How large a divot is in the back of the stud? I ask because the double lug is a two piece affair that has the back half press fitted into the front, and it might be that they are now using that front piece in case anyone wants to have a double lug added.

In the before time, the long long ago, single studded knives did not have the little cutout on the lockbar to allow access to the back stud, it had to be added when the double stud was installed. They made the cutout standard at some point, before the classic I believe.

Could have, the stop pin on newer sebenzas has grooves machined in it, older ones are plain, looks like a slight change to me.

stjames- I added a 3rd pic and the thumb lug is almost all the way flush with the backside of the blade. I dont see how CRK could add a double thumb lug to this design.

stvsctt- I noticed that a while back and they also change the lanyard pin design slightly. It now has a little "pyramid' in the dimple. The thumb lug on the Carbon Fiber 21 almost matches it.

When comparing the two up close , the hole in the blade looks to be the same size. I think the new thumb lug design is giving it the effect of looking smaller, especially in the pictures. I"m guessing its just a new design. Doesn't bother me any:D

The last lanyard with blue tie cord bar or pin I recently received from CRK was just like the back side of thumb stub shown. The previous tie cord bar or pins had divit without a pointy thing projecting in the center if that makes sense.

That looks to me to be a purely aesthetic addition to the backside of the thumblug. Something to beautify an otherwise flat surface. I dig it!

I'm not following why this wouldn't be possible - can you elaborate?

I was referring to the first post. I am sure CRK could do a dbl thumb lug conversion to the knife, just was saying that I don't think you could just "add" another thumb lug to the backside.

First time I have seen this, though I prefer the older sebenzas to the new ones. It looks like the back of the thumbstud now matches the lanyard pin. Looks good overall. Congrats on your new sebbie by the way....!!!

Tagging this thread so I can see the pics later. I've got some questions too.

My small Sebenza 21 (born January 18th 2012) has the flat design. My Large Micarta 21 (born January 2 , 2012) and Large 21 (born November 23, 2011) both have the "divot." Interesting.

Very Awkward. I wonder how those things happen at CRK.

That's the first time I've seen those newer looking lugs.

Now I've got a question. I bought a used Sebbie with these lugs on them, that I really like. I assumed they were after market because other parts had been changed, but then I got another with the same lugs from a different source. Here's some pics. What are they? Factory, aftermarket, and can I get them for my other Sebbies?

Those look like standard double thumb lugs that you can get from a number of knife making sites. I used Benchmade mini grip thumb studs on my small Regular Sebenza. :)
