Did CS updgrade the G10 scales on the Recon 1? OR do I have a fake??

I never held the older thick handled Lawman, but I like the current thin handles for carry. The thin handles are part of the appeal of the Code 4. I don t seem to have any trouble using the Lawman for fairly heavy outdoor work. The Lawman handles are smooth enough to avoid damaging my pants with the clip, but textured enough for a good grip. My hand doesn't slip on the current handles when wet.

Wait till you handled the older thick-scaled lawman otherwise it's hard to make that comparison. The current handle is good, don't think that's the point of contention, the point was it was MUCH better before but made worse. The smoother texture is a good improvement, but the solid feeling of the thicker handle is gone. I speak from experience of owning every version of Lawman produced since 2010.

Also, Code 4 is nice and thin, but wait till you try the grip tape mod. Here's mine. That extra 0.03" of thickness completely changed the game. Once you tried it, i suspect most people wouldn't wanna go back.

Lol at the logic . Sure, but nothing with lawman sized and shape. Im not going to carry an espada just because it has thicker handle.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Would love to hear where the common reviewer complaints come from. Thick scaled model like lawman and recon 1 was never thick, heavy and bulky. When it comes to thickness, griptilian for example is thicker. When it comes to weight, the manix 2 is heavier. When it comes to bulkiness, the 0350 pretty much unbeatable. The old lawman and recon 1 is pretty much the same thickness as the Paramilitary 2 and the Military.

in fact, CS switched to linerless, they consistently have much higher strength and lighter weight than similar competing models.
;) Sure , you want what you want ...but CS is not like Spyderco with nearly endless variations . Part of why CS costs a lot less for what you get .

If someone wants a thin , easy carry , CS has the AL , C4 , and even the BT2 and the TC karambit . Probably others .

For a nice thick handle folder : UH , AD10 , AD15 , BR , 4Max , etc .

If you look at every review for CS you can find , you'll see what I meant . It will be pretty obvious .

:( Although , I personally wouldn't mind the BT2 having a thicker handle . I use that one in PE for electrical and other work . Still OK with gloves .

First,... You're enabling me to get a Code 4. SECOND, would you perhaps be willing to part with any of those older American Lawmans?? :):D:thumbsup:

Sorry Doc, what's the BT2??

Haha nope, permanent collection, considering it's unlikely CS will produce thick scaled lawman again. This particular one has been with me for 11 years and been thru all the ups and down, and travelled across the country with me, so yeah it's either gonna go to my kids or end up in garage sales after i die.

BT2 is Black Talon 2.

:)^^^Yup ! This . ^^^ :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Bottom knife in pic below .

I love this knife for both SD and utility .

I have both a full serrated for SD and a plain edged for work .

:eek:What's that Tiger claw? Some kind of quasi-karambit?

Man that Black Talon looks sweet... I may get one one day... If I had one now I'd carry another knife with it for several reasons (SD and otherwise), and wouldn't be sure which would be the backup o_O.

I wonder, what kind of work do you do that benefits from that blade shape? Harvesting crops??

Most commonly , precise opening of boxes . Recently used for stripping 8ga electrical cable wire for a emergency backup generator connecting to my house main fuse box .

The hawk , bird's beck , etc has long been a common work knife as is the karambit in the areas of origin .

Carpet knives , electrician knives , paring (kitchen ) knives and many more have had this hook type profile .

Very useful . The force is concentrated at or near the tip and material tends to be drawn in by the curvature of the blade . Precise control is possible .

For SD , these knives must be used with techniques that are different / specialized , for best results .

I'm aware of the hawk style's benefits for utility and combat. I just thought, with the hawk blade, plus the ring, but the neutral shaped handle (vs classic curved karambit) immediately struck me as odd.

I definitely agree about needing to be trained to use these type of blades for maximum combat effectiveness. Every time I see someone carrying a gas-station karambit I think: this dude probably has no idea what he's carrying nor how to use it...

I'm also convinced you've had training. FMA perhaps? Don't mean to call you out, you obviously don't have to answer. ;)

:) My weapons training is mostly self taught and some informal training from family / friends .

I did have about 30 yrs formal training and practice in several styles of karate , some of which is applicable .

But this is CS forum , not Practical Tactical . That's where we discuss such things , mostly . ;)

Thanks for linking that. I meant to ask weeks ago because for whatever reason I couldn't find it while browsing.
