Did Gil Hibben Ever not Make Junk

Well said, Sal. :)

I confess....

I own over 100 customs and productions. Some of the nicest knives out there. Among them somewhere in a box is a Griffyn... :D

Damn nice design for it's intended purpose—which is simple fantasy. We can laugh all we want, but Gil is laughin' all the way to the bank... :p

Thanks for all the replies setting me straight. I guess what I meant was is there someplace to get the custom Hibbens. I don't like the UC stuff because of the low grade steels, and their poor customer service. I do like Gil's practical designs like his Kenpo knife and especially his Alaskan guide knife. I'm glad to hear that high quality versions of them are produced.

I've always wanted an Elmer Keith Knife.
Sigh, so many knives.....collecting one of each is taking me longer than I thought.
:grumpy:

I was lucky enough to get one of his customs. A rayskin auto. Yup, an automatic. Surprised me when I saw it and searching the net I could find nothing about them. Took a chance and bought and have no regrets. It's very similar in design to the "Pro Folder" UC sells.

Very nice knife....JC III

KM,
Thanks for the link, those are a little (read a lot) out of my price range right now, but they're beautiful knives. I didn't realize Gil made such a variety of knives. Auto's too, now that does seem rare. I don't think I've heard of too many others who do high quality custom fixed blades AND autos, but I still got a lot to learn.

I own 3 Hibben designed UC blades. The Highlander Bowie, a Rambo III and a small thrower. The 2 Bowies have each travelled backcountry with me. Both basically used as small machete/brush/camp building blades. NO problems with either. Of course neither was the only blade I carried, though if pressed I could easily survive with either as my primary. They sharpen easily and hold the edge IMHO. Y'all can complain about UC if you like, maybe they have gone crappy in the last few years, but I like those I own. I have better uses for my disposable income now and no longer order from UC. They were a good starter source. :)
