I just got one myself. I have a Spyderco Sharpmaker, but I'm not too happy with it, especially if a knife gets too dull. I got the Work Sharp system partly to try to learn to eventually use just a stone by itself. But I wanted a system that was not a big production to set up. This one is pretty simple, and pretty compact. Initial trials have been pretty good to quickly get a knife pretty sharp, and I ordered the upgrade kit with the extra stones. I plan to use the extra coarse to reprofile some 20 degree bevels to 17 or less.
I agree that electric sharpeners can be destructive. I've never had a really good one, though. I have an early Chef's Choice, and noticed a few old knives are wavy. I think it's because sometimes the knife binds a little near the handle and cuts too much away in that area. Or it may have been me being too slow at the beginning of the cycle. Anyway, I'd just as soon avoid electric sharpeners anyway.
