I sold my dozen Emersons due to similar experiences. I just don't trust them. The last to go was my Horseman that developed horrific blade play after about two weeks of opening packages and envelopes. I was just going to keep it but got tired of seeing it in the Pelican case so I sent it back to the factory for repair. I will give credit where it's due; the warranty process was good.
Edit: By the way, I've had essentially the same warranty experience from ZT, Benchmade, and Spyderco so that is not a selling point for the Emerson. Though, if I remember correctly, Benchmade and ZT didn't email me a tracking number for the return shipments. In my opinion, you still get less knife for the same money with an Emerson.
If you want an Emerson, buy a ZT Emerson collaboration (0620/0630). That's what I did. In fairness, they don't match a real Emerson for handle ergonomics (Emerson knocks that out of the park) but I trust my ZTs and they are a much better value for your money.
- They notified via email when the package arrived and via email with a tracking number when it was on its way back to me.
- They waived the $14 return shipping fee, which I really appreciated.
- They returned a knife to me that was essentially like new and functional but it didn't matter. I would never trust it and sold it as soon as it came back.
