They did use Aus-8 steel... then switched to D2... and I've heard that they're back to using Aus-8.
Where was the knife made? (What Country?)
My Rat 2 says Taiwan: right on the blade.
Aus-8 xnd D2 are the available blade steels They make both, charging a slightly higher price for the D2.
Looks real to me. my RAT-1's blade was around 1/8 inch thick.
The spine shoulders were a little bit rounded on mine, too.
The.clip, blade shape, screw positions, screw heads, also look right.
Not to be a smart arse, but do counterfeit RAT-1 or RAT-2 knives even exist?
Not a knock against the RAT1 - or RAT-2 - for that matter, but they are a common "affordable 'low end' every man's" knife.
I believe they retail for under $40, regardless of which blade steel it is.
There is no mystique or "wow factor" about a RAT like there is for example, an expensive Chris Reeve, Hinderer, Benchmade, or other knife that some call "mid techs".
Counterfeiters generally don't bother with knives that retail for less than $150 ~ $200 ... or more.
Are there counterfeits of the sub $100 Spyderco?
Also, keep in mind that over the years a knife is produced, there may be small not publicized changes made to the design. Slightly rounding the spine, for example. Perhaps the legal department decided a user could cut themself on a spine with sharp 90° edges, opening the company to a litany of liability lawsuits.
If you are really worried about your RAT-1 being a fake, send to to OKC, or if you desire nearby take it to them in person, and ask if is real.
