Did I just make a mistake?

Haha, def adds to the mystique...
Maybe she was trying to earn a living...
Concert or festival?
Monster truck show probably lol

I just bought this safe queen on an impulse purchase. I have always loved the blade shape, and, having The King, a 5, a 15 and mad respect for Ethan - I thought I'd better jump on this unused one when I came across it.

So I went through the "Brute" thread immediately afterward and lo and behold, it sounds like this knife is not very well liked. Even by Uncle Ethan himself.

So I now have mixed feelings a bit, but I still am looking forward to receiving it. I really like the way it looks, and always have. I like the wider part near the tip, it's like nothing else I've ever seen on a knife.

What is it about them that turns people off? Is it not heavy enough at the tip to be a good chopper, or just kinda "meh" to folks? It sounds like I'd need to get it reprofiled from the onset to about 35 degrees.

I resisted buying a BK20 -and should not have, what with all the Hinderer folders I've bought over the past 5 weeks (7) and now am wondering if that would have been a better move than jumping on this.

For what I paid for it, I suppose I can resell it and still pull the trigger on a 20. I do like that blade as well.

Is The Brute not well liked universally, a show horse, and nothing more? All hat and no cattle?

Should of Grabbed a 20 as many more Brute's then 20's as of today
when u ready I will take or trade u a BK20 for your Brute

The 20's will be right behind the 2 and 9 in front for some of
Us

Mines in front of the 2 and beside the 9. The 9 is perfect for clearing the trail on horseback. Haven't tried the 20 yet but it feels a bit large to be swinging around the horse. The 9 provides much more control on follow through.

Great thread so far.....maybe I shoulda looked at it before. Anywho....my 2¢ is this: Brute: Looks badass, has issues of self importance and a bit of narcissism. If you can bring it back down to earth and get it to look in the mirror and re-evaluate its attitude, it's damn serviceable - and still a looker. What I mean is, if yer gonna use this bad boy, yer gonna hafta bring it down a peg and de-pretty boy it. Out of the box, they cut like shit - in fact, they don't cut at all. Edge angles were actually obtuse on mine (which was unused when I got it). After about an hour with the KOWS I got it down to about 70° - which is a LOT of steel on this blade.

Jim Bensinger has offered up the use of his Bader to REALLY put a convex on it....which I'd love to do. As it is, the re-profile has done wonders for it. It is now, undoubtedly, a real knife (as opposed to being somewhat of a bludgeon before) and will now make feather sticks, even. Independent verification by dresnor:

My opinion is that if you're gonna use it, make it useful; make no mistake that with some "adjustment", this is a capable tool - and it looks pretty cool. I think knifejunkie's Brute has been modded, and I know Dubz' has been - his is sharpened a bit on the top edge, IIRC. If it's just a looker or a safe queen, well....it's pretty good at that without modification, I reckon. I HAFTA use the stuff I buy....it's not really in my nature to have safe queens. Then again, I can't afford the kinda prices that get asked for knife art, so.....not likely to be a conundrum for me. If I were to do anything else to mine, I'd taper the handle a bit à la Dex Withers. It's a little thick for my mitt.

Now....isn't it about time for you to post some pics?
