Will have to set this up a little. The area I live in is somewhat rural. 1 and a half to two acre plots. Some properties like mine are fenced in, some not. Dirt road around the Quiet Valley Loop, normally quiet, anyway! People take their walks around the loop, occasionally, about 2 miles around the entire loop.

Saturday, had Mom out in the rocked driveway with her walker, trying to get her some exercise after her hip op in late May. Have to work those muscles.... While I was keeping an eye on Mom, thought I would experiement a little with my BAS. Was chopping a little on some oak firewood and still keeping an eye on Mom's progress.

A couple I don't remember seeing before, were taking a walk, my blue heeler decided to charge the fence, I called her off and waved to the folks, saying HI! how are you. They didn't respond but turned around and QUICKLY walked back the way they had come. I DIDN'T REALIZE, until later, smiling to myself, I still had the BAS in my hand, the one I had raised to wave with. It had felt so comfortable, I didn't realize I had it in my hand.

Will have to keep an eye out for them and apologize, Wonder what they thought of this crazy man waving the wierd knife? Got a little chuckle later on, thinking about it. Wonder if I will eventually get a visit from the SF Deputy, which is sorta scarce around here. DG

heh thats a funny story!

in this country if you scared them like that it'd be assault!

like if i was brandishing my khuk in my front room and someone looking thru the front window was scared by me it'd be assault >:( stoopid laws.

Our street is part of a three-mile measured loop, used by local joggers, power walkers, and neighbors just out for a stroll. The neighbors are cool - same general age bracket, and same general backgroud and attitudes. Ther are some, however who come fromseveral miles to use the circuit. Trimmin one of the big Maples in my front yard (with a 21" Chitlangi :p ) stopped two Gucci-clad yuppy athelete in their tracks - they turned and went back from whence they had come. I'm careful not to show steel when the more...scenic... passers by are passing by

Sorry to hear the laws have gotten so bad, but maybe happening here, sooner than we think. I hope NOT!
Have many good memories of England! Still have an ex brother-in-law, now living in Ipswich, more like a brother, I never had. We still write to each other, now and again. Served at RAF Heyford and RAF Fairford, 1957-1960; and RAF Alconbury, 1969-1974. Have a pint for me!

You can apologize all you want. They will never trust you again and will raise their kids to fear you!!!!
You will become the old man that has the mean little yippie arsed dog who sill sneak up from behind and bite you on the ankle and then run like hell barking that yippie little bark that's so damned irritateing.
The kids will throw rocks at your house in the middle of the night just to wake that little yippie arsed mutt so the little yippie arsed mutt will wake your arse up.
Your sleep will be forever interupted and your reputation will spread like wildfire!!!!

They will never trust you again !!!!!!!

hehehehehehe....;)

Thanks alot, Yvsa! Now I'll never sleep. Think I'll just lay out in the yard and wait.. LOL

When I'm out walking, I'm looking for people with big knives to go say hi to, and I get nothing... I need new neighbors. And in my mind I'm already "mean old Mr. Johnson" to the local kids since they seem to bring out my bad attitude :D Luckily school should be starting soon, not that that will do much to keep them from hanging about during the day

When I was out with SWMBO looking at houses, I saw one with a big US flag and a Gadsen flag (the Revolutionary War flag, yellow w/rattlesnake and "Don't Tread On Me") on the porch, I knew who I wanted to be neighbors with!

Hehehe my neighbors are very much afraid of me. The first time I met them I was swinging a 42" kampilan in my backyard clearing the foiliage. :D Anyhow if they frighten easily they may not be the best of company. I know people who even the knowledge that I own something more lethal than a butter knife, scares the living daylights out of them. Despite knowing me as being gentler than a lamb. ;) Sometimes with these types of people it seems that they believe the weapon itself will fly out on its own and wreak havoc. Too much city living.

You guys all need to move in around my area...our Neighbohood Watch plan even includes pre-assigned fields of fire.

If the people you were talking about turned tail that easy I'd say you don't need that kind of friends any way.

I have a variety of neighbors and they don't bother me and I don't bother them. There are a few bikers, retired military and a bunch of vets that work in Austin and the surrounding area and, just plain folks that wanted to get away from the rat race in the big city.

I don't have much patience for narrow minded people that can't see that guns and knives do not kill people.. I can lay my .44 Mag and the biggest Khuk I have on our kitchen table and let them lay there till they rust to nothing and they won't hurt a soul till some dingbat picks one of them up and makes it hurt somebody.

I helped raise 7 kids and always had loaded guns around the house. Never had anyone get hurt in the house and none of the neighbors were ever shot at either. My Grandfather told me that when you start to raiseing young'ens you have to be the adult.

I better close this. I could go on for a couple of more paragraphs but, I don't want to bore any one to tears.:) :)

heh heh! I can live with that.

This is all very funny...in my little town we had a parade on the 4th of july down the main dirt road. Whole town and neighbors from miles around. Firetrucks, cars, horses, and kids and animals walk in front in this parade. A friend had a ancient steam engine in the back of his pickup and invited me to ride atop. I did and waved my 19" chitlangi around in the air. Hooray for America!

Sorry to hear that, lcs37...
Positive side is, they will not annoy you, and will raise their kids not to do so. Hope this idea will ease your soul a hair.

You're welcome to the sugar (bring your own cup).....I'll have to think about the Khukuri.....watch out for the trip wires :D ...and smile at the neighbors.
