Did I make a Mistake ? Purchased new GERBER Decree S30V

Yup. And, while I don't care about country of origin, you're also getting into China vs US manufacturing. Honestly, the Tenacious is a great budget blade, but the price on it has jumped so much I would never recommend them anymore. Particularly with the Byrd line conspicuously sitting there and costing less for the same materials from the same manufacturer.

Yeah, the Tenacious runs around $40 or more for an 8Cr13MoV knife. Sure, it's a good knife, but for half that(or less, in some cases) I can get a Chinese Kershaw, Byrd, or Enlan using the same steel, and sorry, I don't consider G10 enough of an improvement over FRN to warrant paying double or more for the knife. Heck, for $40 I can get a Leek, Chive, or Scallion with better steel(and US made, if you care about that).

I bought the decree when it was released, hell of a knife for the $ i dgaf what anyone says.

Sounds good for 50 bucks. And s30 and american made. Glad to see gerber making a little more usa stuff recently. It would be nice to see them get back to their roots.

Just Purchased a new 2015 American Lawman (newer lighter 2015 version than original) I got it for $70 on Amazon yesterday after I got my Decree which was $56 I feel these are Incredible prices for EDC Which my Rule is Not to pass $100

BUT I feel Conflicted, its a Cold Steel but not USA made Taiwan

Still G10 Handles less than 4 Oz and CTS-XHP Steel. and its lighter and Smaller than the Gerber Decree which I plan to still try out.

I dont mind taiwan myself. Although its always a plus to be made in usa if, they started in usa. By 'their roots' i also mean that i hope they will stop putting out hokey stuff.

I agree. My Dice is Taiwan made and the build quality exceeds that of all three Seki-made Spydercos I own by a comfortable margin.

The decree is a bit large for my needs, but I carry and use my Gerber Order on a regular basis - nice, inexpensive light-weight USA-made mid-lock knife

I also have a couple of de-assisted Gerber Propels for harder use, no real complaints about them.

For a knife similar to the Order but S30V, you could just try the earlier generation of EZ-out blades including the sheepsfoot version:

When you get the decree, write up a review with pics for the "reviews and testing" section here on BF? I'm sure it would be appreciated by future potential owners.

I bought a Decree several months ago and it's not a bad knife but it's not a great knife either. I really like the way it feels in my hand. It feels solid and just fits my hand. I like it's shape also. What I don't like is the serrated blade and the fact that it is hard to open. I don't carry it because I have decided it is too large to suit me. I have since bought a Benchmark Mini Griptillian and I like the size much better plus just about everything about the Griptillian is better but then again it cost almost twice as much as the Decree.

The Decree is not a bad knife. To me it has a really solid feel and I use it a lot around the house but it is just too large for me to carry. I have had a Buck Cadet in my pocket for about the last forty years so even the Mini Griptillian seems a little large to me. I just ordered a Boker titanium Mini Kwaiken so sometime next week I will see how it fits. Again I like the Decree, it does most everything I want a knife to do, and for the price it was not a bad deal.

Excellent pictures Not gonna miss out of the Decree now. the Gerber order looks good but I was gonna but it however the Blade design didnt sway me. I am sure this board will have a firestorm about S30V with a Serrated Edge. I try and get everything I have plain edge because I enjoy sharpening if done right its like a sooth calming ritual and I am so satisfied at my final product. Serrations never bother with and a pain to sharpen.

Also For me before Steel is the Lock Up type and the Gerber Decree I believe is a liner lock (I could be wrong) and looks horribly weak and thats how people loose fingers.

Cold Steel Lawman, especially the newer 2015 version appears to be a Paramilitary 2 challenger and that is very high praise.

Well, there was a Basspro exclusive Gerber EZ-out plain-edge S30V with camo handles: (pic from noze-nuz)

I certainly would prefer a plain-edge option on the Order, but I mostly use either of these in situations where I'm cutting a lot of rope and roots, not so much carving wood or cutting paper-products (cardboard). so serrated edge works fine for me.

I keep holding out for Cold Steel to bring production to the USA, but a lot of their new offerings are very tempting, and I certainly trust their Triad-lock over the Gerber back-locks and liner-locks (over ANY liner-lock, honestly)

Definitely gonna try the Gerber Decree, 100% convinced its gonna be superior to the Delica 4 tactically and in build. That my hopes.

But after all the feedback here I've decided to treat myself to a new Benchmade or Kershaw. nothing over 3.0 oz for EDC and No FRN body, G-10 or Aluminum.

in a pinch if I had nothing else to defend myself with a Gerber Decree is hands down a step up from a Delica 4

hope everyone agrees.

Doesn't matter if "everyone" agrees or not as long as you like the Gerber. Have you ever defended yourself with a knife? Seems to me that a firearm would be a lot more effective and a lot easier to get semi-proficient with.

I would rather carry the Delica 4 anytime over the Gerber.

I think you need to re-think your $100 EDC rule. Why buy all of these knives if you never consider using them for anything other than cutting an envelope or package open at home?

Gerber arrived today IMO not worth it. I am convinced now that Gerber's Designed and Engineered in USA is Legal speak I could be wrong but I thinks they are Chinese parts assembled in USA.
Sharpness was just ok, too big to EDC. I took some pics the DLC coating is rough not smooth just a personal preference can't say if thats standard. Coating was uneven not that it would affect the usability.
I do have a small but growing collection of rare and unique EDC both folding and fixed knives for collection purposes but they are functional Which I love collecting I have never had to "defend" myself with a knife. Once I was almost mugged in an elevator by a drug addict concealing a knife, I Pre-deployed my PM2 before he could draw his and he got off the elevator and did nothing. I am confident the new 2015 Cold Steel Lawman will be amazing.

heres the Lawman in case anyone is interested watch at 0:41 amazing

Ice, edit that amazon item out of your post. It's considered deal spotting and frowned upon.

If you wanted a black bladed partially serrated linerlocking knife - for a few bucks less I would have gone with the Spyderco Tenacious myself.

But if you like it - that's all that matters.

8CR13Mov over S30V?
Chinese made vs USA made?
2 words, hell no.

I'll take the Gerber any day of the week, even at twice the price.

the ez out is an awesome blade. the handle is a little chintzy but it was 30$ so i cant complain. is the decree any better?

Even if the 8cr is cooked perfect around 59 rc while the s30v is a funky batch at 56 and rolls or 62 and chips?

Hypothetical scenario, but one that deserves consideration...
