Did I make the right decision?

I've been on the fence about buying a Becker companion for quite some time. One side of me says that it's a thick honking blade, do I really need a sharpened pry bar?
The other part of me says, that's one big honking blade! it's like a sharpened pry bar, I must have it!
I do have plenty of smaller blades, and quite a few larger blades. I also carry a BK14 daily, so I have plenty of blades for small tasks, but I don't have a sharpened pry bar. But, do I really need a sharpened pry bar anyways?

Then I saw that the BK10 was being released and I thought to myself, that is what I want!
But I'm not a patient man, so I ordered a BK2 tonight.

Now I already have some medium sized blades, but none as thick as the BK2.
There's just something about a 1/4" piece of steel that kind of appeals to me.
Besides, I've also had my eye on the ESSE-5, but the Becker seems comparable to it but a much better value.
Hopefully it should compliment my little Eskabar well too, it should after all it is called the 'companion".:D

My question is, did I make the right decision?
I guess in the end the only one that can really answer that is me, but I still wouldn't mind a few opinions.
....................it gives me something to do till the mailman brings me my new Becker.

Did you already have a BK-2? If not, then yes you did make the right choice.

If you did, and this is a second one, then yes you did. Next though you need to get a 3. Talk about a sharpened pry-bar!

That's the answer I was hoping to hear.
The only way I might regret this purchase is if my wife gets to the package before I do when it arrives.
It's always the same response, "How many knives do you need", "How many guns do you need?", or "How many fishing poles do you need?"

She clearly just doesn't get it.

At least it's cheaper than a new gun, or good fishing pole!;)

How many purses or shoes does she need?

I just stopped commenting on.new shoes and purses, it helped a lot on her commenting my knives, haha...

1/4" thick knives are completely unnecessary for most anything. However just like you I own one because it makes me feel like a mountain man. :D

Nothing feels right in my hand after handling my BK2. Something about the heft and the balance of the blade just feels right! And when something feels that right, how can it possibly be wrong?

It was one of my first "survival", "bushcraft" blades purchased. Many blades purchased since, some cost more some less but it is still one of my favorites. I think you made a wise choice.

Thanks for the reassurance. I figured, how can I aspire to be a "Beckerhead" someday without buying myself a BK2.

As for shoes and purses I'm lucky, my wife is quite thrifty, I on the other hand am not thrifty by any sense of the word.
But once I sneak the knife into the collection the rest will be easy. It wont be too hard to sneak in the micarta scales and custom leather sheath.;)

Did you make the right choice? Well let me put it this way...

I have two Beckers and both are my favorite and most used knives. One is a BK2 and the other is a 14...

I've had no great urge to add to this, as the 2 and 14 suit my needs and fit nearly any task at home or around my camp.

You made the right choice. Your steel cravings will be satisfied and pulling that beast out of the box will put a big ole grin on your face. Then, by the time you are back in good with the wife, the BK10 will be available and you'll start all over again.

Ya know about a month before the BK24 came out, I was looking on Tomars to see if they were available yet and ended up ordering a BK14. A month later, ordered the 24.
Moral of the story, 2 Becker's are better than 1.
you could get a PO box for all of your gun, knife, fishing to be shipped to?
My collage buddy lives a few miles away, he gets some packages delivered there.....

i own a cold steel recon scout and it whittles hair, slices paper just fine. however it also goes through trees better than most pocket knives can also... well i want to get a bk2 at some point. if the edge isnt rediculously stupidly thickly ground like an srk factory edge is, if it can slice what you need it too, a thicker blade is normally better in a fixed blade. you should get yourself a little opinel no.8 for a thinner knife, theyre like 6 bucks. or ten.

Everybody needs a 2 at some point in their life.

When buying a Becker, is there a wrong decision???

All these things & more. You made the right decision when you found BK&T/KaBar. High quality blades at working mans prices. You will want & need a 10 at some point as well, & 4,5,6,7,9,11,14,15,16,17, ............ :D

Got an Opinel #8 in my pocket right now.

I have a good variety of blades, but I don't have one that's 1/4" thick so I guess it had to be done.

I've considered a PO box and that might be in the future if things got out of hand.
The way I see it is it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission.
Buying knives are definitely easier than buy guns anyways.
I was in the doghouse for a good three months when I bought my Springfield XD last spring.:D
Although I didn't hear much about the S&W .22 I bought last month so she might be getting soft.
I suppose she'd rather I buy a $65 knife than a $500 pistol.
She'll probably flip when I buy my AR15 this summer though.;)

Most of my knife purchases are thru Amazon and it helps if I make sure I order something for my wife whether its jewelry or clothes. Also make sure it comes before or at the same time as the knife purchase. Hope it helps good luck
