Did I miss something?

Not necessarily. An agreement between a manufacturer and a retailer for MAP could be construed as a vertical price fix. An attempt to restrict actual selling price would be a violation. There are a lot of ways a MAP policy could go wrong. I’m not an anti-trust lawyer either, and can quickly get out of my depth. In fact, it looks like I already have.
No again. Because again this is regulating the advertised price and not the sales price.

The stores are welcome to sell for less. But if they do that all the time then they go out of business.

Do you honestly think no one with a lot more credentials and who make a lot more money than any of us of has not looked at MAP policies before? Especially since it's not a new thing?

WM is a great place to buy a 110. BassPro and Canadian Tire here in Calgary also carry their slim line. Look for sales.

The best thing I've done for knife stuff (and gun for that matter), was to develop a relationship with a small local dealer. Once in a face-to-face negotiation, MAPP policies become a moot point. If you become a regular, and the margins allow it, you may just find the best deals...on average.

Oh, I assume the manufacturers are well represented. I also know, from the little background reading I have been able to to, that the mfrs. can impose MAP unilaterally, but if they agree with retailers to MAP, that can be a violation. One of the things they pay their anti-trust lawyers to do is to steer them away from business practices that might be interpreted as such an agreement.

Do as you wish, but that is a silly reason to not buy a knife.

The price isn't my reason for not buying a 110, but it did make me pause long enough to admit that I really don't need one. As I said, I have a knife for every occasion.

Can you really have too many knives? I've heard about that but never believed it. :D

Buck lets retailers discount their knives around Father's day and I think black friday to Christmas. Those sales always cause me to spend more than I saved.

I understand now. I’m in the same boat. But the 110 is a knife I could not live without.
