Did I ruin my counterbore?

I finally got in a HSS counterbore for the large GTC bearings I want to use on my framelock. Working on the titaniun was no problem and I got some nice curly-q's. When I went to counterbore a little pocket on the hardened blade side nothing happened. I tried for a few seconds and gave up. Okay, too damned hard. I went back to the titanium and now I just get dust, some fine chips and a lot of heat. Can I salvage this counterbore?

Thanks!

Using a counterbore is not the best way to make bearing pockets. Counterbores do not have the accuracy you need for bearings. Use an e-mill with a rotary table.

This is an interesting piece of advise Chuck... never would have thought of it myself. I'll have to give it a try in the future.

Contact your local Tool & Die/Machine Shop supplier they can give you the name of a local cutter grinder or sharpening shop that does rev rind work on cutters.
