Strange how that 4 broke. Not straight across, like you might think. Did he start the batonning, hitting on the end? I usually hit the blade directly above the wood to get it started in, then hit the blade more on the end.

Would be cool to have user names with all the faces.

I think the view of that is skewed due to their increase in popularity. When ESEE first blew up, there was a huge rise in the number of reported breakages, but the reason that number was larger was because there were so many more out there than there had been previously. At the time that happened, Becker knives hadn't caught on near as much as they have now and as a result the sample size to gather reports of breakages has increased tremendously, in part due to ESEE leaving the forums here and Becker falling into that position as a no nonsense affordable knife for most tasks.
