Well folks, I had my first knife show this weekend. Took my boy with me. Had a good ol time! It was really nice getting to see peoples reactions when they held some of my knives. Got a lot of positive feedback. A lot of oooos and ahhhhs. Placed several orders. Had a man hand over his antler & blade he got many years ago to put together for him. Can’t wait to do my next show. I brought only eight of my knives for display, as some of you suggested. Seemed to present really well. Not too crowded on the table. By the way, my Mom had a good idea to throw candy on the table to lure them in , and seemed to work pretty good. Thought I’d attach pictures of the show. See you guys! Need sleep

Looks like you had fun. It kind of looks like your jealous that those guys had their mits on your knives.;):D I bet your boy enjoyed himself also.

looks like you had fun. I'll bet it was a great time.

you probably know this but here goes anyways. you will want to clean the knives very well then oil them at the end of the day, the oils in our hands are corrosive and will cause your blades to rust and with that many people touching the knives it may be a problem.

Way to go Archer. It looks like you had a good time. I wanted to make that show but didn't.

Nice setup.

I used to own a company that did custom cages for reptiles and pet stores. Before every show we'd go to a toy store and buy every 50 cent kite they had to hand out to the kids. Then we'd laugh our butts off at the 5 year olds literally dragging their parents over to talk to us :) Def. evil, but it worked.

Ya, I had a good time. First day was a little nerve racking because I wasn't sure what people would think about my knives, but the reaction was really good, which eased my nerves. Sunday I was having a good ole time. Can't wait for the next one. I better go oil my blades. My wife is on me to do that, since Josiah.

was there anything you would differently? Any tips for us aspiring knife makers who have yet to do a show?

Nice job Archer. That had to be a blast. I have never done a show. I hope to someday. Get alot of good feedback that way.

I love knife shows and always feel sad when the closing hour comes.
Your table looks great and interesting to stop at. Your son will remember that weekend forever too.

Boy I can see you had one of the greatest times of your life. And I know for certain that your son will remember this for a long time. Putting business cards, brochures, Knives, Photographs of previous work, and so on, can help in doing a knife show.

Your T-shirt with your name as the maker will also drawl attention to your table. A good presentation is one of the key to success. And putting candy on the table was a great idea. People like free things. It all helps. Thanks for sharing your good time with us. :)

Corn dogs and BBQ sandwiches got old. I’m definitely bringing more food from home next time. If you have children, make sure to bring something to keep him busy. Free candy was a good way of getting people over there. After what Indy said, I think I’ll make a handful of my little Indian bows for the kids to lure in the parents. I was pretty happy with my setup. I took a little bit here and there from the more experienced knife makers on this forum, and it paid off. Like Terry suggested, I’ll probably get t-shirts made with my logo next.
