Well it is hotter than .....well, you know, out here in Oregon this weekend. Figure the beaver pond in the woods has got to be a little cooler than home so my son and I headed off for the afternoon. I grabbed one of my Reality Check knives and my Bushcraft knife for a few test cuts. Both worked great on some dry wood we found and I found a fresh alder the beaver had fallen and decided to help out our hosts by making the alder a little easier to move
The big RC knife is 12 1/8 in overall with a 7in blade. It is a little on the heavy side as I used some 5/16 thick 5160 for the blade. I did drill out the tang a bit so it's not uber heavy though. The Bushcraft is 9 9/16 overall with a 4 5/8 blade from 1/8in thick 1095. The Reality Check did great on chopping and slicing. The Bushcraft did GREAT in slicing! I even did some light chopping with it on a few 3/4 to 1inch limbs and it did fine for being a lightweight. The scandi grind REALLY digs in! Had to adjust my cut angle a tad to compensate. Not a negative to tell the truth. Just different from the full flat grinds I am more used too. I found myself doing more push cutting with the Bushcraft. it really shaves the wood
Lots of thin shavings! I can see why the scandi grind is getting so popular.
