I believe they were to go out this week.
Did they make it?
Any unforeseen delays (I know there always are)?
Got one preordered, and I'm anxious to get my grubby little hands on it.

Can't help but notice that noone has posted here in a week. We could use an update.
Thanks.

It's not a folder-it's a fixed blade. Rob Simonich design 3" blade of D-2M (or E for enhanced if R.S. has his way
smile.gif
), carbon fiber or G10 scales, and a Mike Sastre cf pattern concealex neck/belt sheath.
Do a search of this forum, or just look back a few weeks. There was a picture posted of one of Rob's Pikunis. The production model should look just like that.
Let me see if this works:

Pretty sweet, huh?

Bob sent me a blade with the mark on it and he is indeed calling it D-2 Enhanced. Not sure where the knives are as far as shipping. The knives wont look exactly the same, but very close, the one pictured has a 2 tone finish and a mosaic pin. Prod models either have a scotchbrite or stonewashed finish. I seen a stonewashed blade and it was great!

I meant ship to 1sks (they're getting the first batch, right?).
They expected them in 8-10 days...over two weeks ago. 90 days ago we were less than 60 days out.

When do we get our knives?

I'm not in a hurry, and expect any new production to run behind, but if I'm told to expect something-I do.

Not wanting to get whiny, but how about keeping us (your customers) a little more informed? You've got a forum right here to do it with!

I'm just mad, 'cause I've already bought two other knives to help make the waiting bearable (yeah, one was a REKAT, but I swear not to buy another one until AFTER my Pikuni gets here
biggrin.gif
).

Owen, I am as anxious as you! However early projections were for late Oct early Nov deliveries, and here it is early Nov. There were a few small delays, but really REKAT has done a great job of keeping things on track. One of the delays was waiting for me to approve the production grinding, and another was talking to the heat treaters do we could "get it right". These small delays were worth the wit in my opinion, the end product is better for it. We will try to keep you more informed, but there really hasnt been anything to update, and Bob B just took care of that!

Thanks for the responses, Rob. Wish you'd get your backlog caught up, so I could try to help build it up again. I'm in love with about half of your knives (and merely lusting after the other half).
That's why I preordered a REKAT Pikuni-bladeart or knifeart, can't remember which one, had two of yours, and they were sold before I got a chance at them. Still debating about a Camillus Talon-just don't care for the handles compared to your blue/green micarta.
Not to give you the big head or anything, but your knives are some of the few that I get excited

about.
Nice buck in the post on the other forum, btw. Mentioning that you skinned it with a Pikuni didn't help my waiting pains a bit

Waiting for deer season to end so Rob can get back to the grind. Pun, what pun?

Thanks Owen, hunting season comes around and I dissapear for about a month! You ought to see the buck I got last year!

I think 1SKS is getting the first Pikunis.

I am glad you like my designs, I am a knife user and try real hard to make knives that work, feel good in the hand, and look clean and simple but are elegant. I am still trying to get there!

Mike Sastre should be shipping the knives next Tuesday to Mike Turber so they should be going out to the consumer very shortly.
They are worth the extra week or so we took I am giving one to my father for Christmas I am so impressed.
Great design Rob, now about that Talonite we are back ordered

What other forum? Where?! Huh?

I think I'm looking forward to this Pikuni more than any other knife this year so far.

Iktomi, look in the Arc Light thread in the general forum started by 1SKS, the buck is in there, I posted the pic to give Anthony Lombardo a bad time!

Christina, the boat should be docking tomorrow, then clear customs etc! Bob I can handle giving me a hard time, but want to keep you happy!

NICE Rob.

DAMN, now I want it even more/sooner!!! Even though, here in suburban so. MD, I'm not going to be able to put it to as good a use as yours.

So, I guess the D-2E works pretty dang well, eh.

Which heat treat did you guys go with, if you don't mind me asking?

So.... I know I'm getting a little overly impatient, but.... did they go out yet? Any of them?

iktomi,

Got Mine!!!

#25 of 50, G-10 handle

Very nice! Very sharp--hair popping.

Grind lines of the edge bevel are slightly uneven, along length and between sides.

Easily slices little curls off of copy paper just fine. Push cuts of little paper curls are more problematical. These are 1/2 sheets of scrap paper that have been through the laser printer. At first my results were yes it push cuts, then no it does not, ...is one spot a little less sharp...?? After slight experimentation, it appears that the grain of the paper makes a difference. No, along the bottom and top edges of what was formerly an 8.5" x 11" sheet of paper; Yes, along the sides. By pushcuts, I mean cutting off curls of paper without moving the knife too much in a slicing fashion, rather mostly just pushing it through the paper.

Well, hopefully mine will get here soon.... I got an itch that I can't scratch.

iktomi,
Don't use the Pikuni to scratch with, unless sheathed, it is very sharp!

More Pikuni facts that as of yet I do not see mentioned by 1SKS:
The concealex sheath and knife combined is 5.1 ounces. Knife alone= 3.3 ounces. Sheath alone is 1.9 ounces. I know these figures do not quite add correctly, so NO jokes about me being from Florida
wink.gif
The digital postal scale is only accurate to tenth's of an ounce.

More knife comments:
The sheath is very nice. I'll have to go out and get some ball chain and try it as a neck knife. It appears the clip which will slip onto a belt--without opening the belt-- will fit about a 1.75" belt with a little room to spare. (Anyone have any tips about how to get parachute cord over ball chain? The last time I did it I had a lot of trouble, perhaps it has to do with relative sizing of the cord and the chain. I tried a little beeswax which seemed to help some.)

The swedge on my knife starts about 1/8" sooner on the right than on the left, with the tip pointing away. The tip is slightly off center.

The handle is nicely fitted to the knife, but I think I will soften some of the G-10 edges with some fine emery cloth. The upper back where the butt of the knife starts to curve might otherwise result in some hot spots in this three finger knife. In other words, where the differing curves of the G-10 meet it forms a subtle point, that while not particularly sharp, is still noticable in a hard material like G-10.

Sheath retention of the knife is about good, not too tight, not lose. I hope it stays this way after a few hundred draws.

Thumb grooves feel OK, and leave me speculating as to how they are made. It appears almost that they were cut, and then hammed in a little to keep them from being too aggressive. If you look at them the grooves that go across are uneven, a groove with protrusions into it, which led to my above speculation, inacurate though it may be.

Isn't that a little... um.... bad?

I had noticed from the picture that Mike posted last week that it looked as if the scales hadn't been rounded too much. That's an easy fix, though. I guess that's what we get for bugging and pushing to get the knives, eh?

Oh well, I'm sure that I'm going to enjoy mine.

Well, another day down the tubes and my Pikuni didn't show. Oh well.... I guess USPS is running slow this week.....

Maybe I'll get #24 before the weekend.
