Did these up a couple weeks ago, well started them a month ago and ran into some issues.

Here's the fabric cut into strips before soaking them in resin.

The material was thinner than I was used to working with so I made the Slab/ slabs too thin. Not a big deal in the end, just sanded them down and added some more layers.

Roughed out to a template and starting the contouring, this is by far the most time comsuming part. Theses are almost all handmade except for the drill press and band saw to rough them out. Also here you can see a decent picture of the tool I've been using to make the corners for the nuts with.

there's the rasp I use to do the sculpting, my goal is to create a handle that feels like a Becker factory handle.

Here's the done picture. Contoured to a BK2 and rasped/ sanded to 400 grit, they are smooth. That's them there on my Camillus BK7(upper left). I couldn't get a real good picture of the finished scales. Maybe We'll get some better ones up here at some point.

Very cool! The scales in the middle of the last picture would go great on my new 9. Hint hint!

If your talking about the Zebra wood scales, Yeah their real nice I made two pair one to give as a gift to someone on this subforum and the other (these ones) will probably go to the evil auction place.

hmm. I have a bunch of old 3-color desert uniforms laying around. I might have to try that.

Those are pretty sweet, can you do some Coyote Brown ones?
I don't have a good way to control the final color. If'n someone had some G10 in the color you wanted, drilling the holes and cutting the counter sinks is no big deal if you have the right tools. The actual making of the Micarta and the shaping and contouring is time consuming.

handles? what handles? i see no handles :)

Well the handles were a hit! I had Oregon make those for me as a gift to my dad. I got him a BK2 and put the scales on it. He does great work they look so much better in person than the pics. Col Defender will post some pics Im sure and maybe even tell a story about why they are so special.

Nice work. Almost makes me want to try some micarta-making myself. Asked for the materials for xmas, but ended up with 5-minute cure epoxy. Not sure what I'm gonna do with that...

Yeah, there's two products I've had good luck with. "Envirotex" Bar top resin & "Ever Fix" Marine epoxy resin. Both 1:1 mix ratios with a fairly long open time (slow dry time). Of the two I'm gonna stay with the everfix even though it's more expensive because it's harder and resists heat much better than the bar top. They are both good though.

Thanks for the headsup. The 1:1 mix ratio sounds like a good plan, rather than having to measure out hardener. Do you ever just get fabric from a fabric store?

I don't but the captain has a Green set she bought the fabric for at Joannes And the green in Nicks set is the same fabric. I usually just make it out of my old pants.

Nice job! Here is the Mil-spec ACU digital that I did for my BK9 from a slab I made back in 2008
