Did you ever buy a knife just because of the handle material .....

Bought a gorgeous Dozier K1 General Utility with jigged bone scales for a tad more than I would have paid for possibly more utilitarian micarta grips when my first pension cheque came in a few years ago. One of the best purchases I ever made. Cuts like a miniature chainsaw.

I think I didn´t do that til now. Though I think, handle material is a pretty important of the knife, for me. Just for explaining; I don´t mind if the liners are brass or steel. But if it´s any prefered natural handle material or any synthetic material (which I don´t prefer because of the feel). Liners don´t fit in the hand, but the handle and so the handlematerial.

Kind regards
Andi

How else do ya think I've ended up with six otherwise identical knives, in this case GEC #62s? And I've seen quite a few lineup photos posted around here that displayed an even greater predilection for redundancy. Bunch o' crazy magpies, the lot of us (ever wonder why my avatar features a box o' crow, aside from its value as a self-effacing taste treat?).

Well, I figure it's like the guys I know (including myself) who buy the exact same watch but in different dial colors. I don't do it too much, but there's more than one member of our forum who has an Orient Mako watch in black, blue, orange and yellow, plus the blue dial/Pepsi (red and blue) bezel.

Watches are more expensive than most knives, excluding customs of course, that's why I've managed to pick up a number of sweet knives lately for about what I'd pay for 2-3 automatic watches.

Thanks for the feedback, guys - I appreciate it! I'm still havin' a heckuva debate with myself as to whether I need this one or not. :D

Handle material had a lot to do with the purchase of these:

Ask me tomorrow after the antique show- I'm too broke for more than possibly another puuko or slipjoint, so we will see......

Usually the knife has to be unique to my collection in some regard (and usable), so handle material may be a deciding feature, but doubt it has been the only one. Has tipped the scales away or toward a purchase though. (pun not intended but left on purpose;) ).
