I was an 80s kid so ninja and all things Japanese were cool. I always wanted a real hand forged old Katana. Final a year ago I bought one A 18th century Kanemoto. I love it. All functional swords all thou they could be decorative or ceremonial have only one real purpose to take life. They are not like any other weapon there is no sport for live swords you don't take it to the range or bushcrafting. It has no purpose at all but to make me happy, and to fulfill my boy hood dream.

What was your childhood dream and did you get it?

Sadly no. I wrote tons of letters to Emily Blunt but she never wrote back, even to say "no I don't want to come live with you."

Oh, you mean my knife-related dream. My bad. ;)

Whatever it was sword, car, whatever. But I think its safe to say we all wanted a woman from about 12 on to current age (unless you wanted a guy) :barf:. That has probably been in another thread thou so lets keep it to things not people.

I finally bought a Buck 110 from the custom shop.
Never could afford one way back when.

Boy, am I glad they dont make 'em like that anymore.
Still, its good to have the icon in my collection.

I do have a Martin MCE2 coming to fullfill my desire for a Lile Rambo FB.

I always wanted a bowie knife when I was younger, I never got one then and I don't have one now because I have no use for one.

LOL...good stuff

To the OP, congrats on the sword. I haven't made my way into nihonto quite yet, need to wait until I make a lot more money than I do now.

If it doesn't have to be knife related, this probably belongs in another section. But that's none of my business.

I got to live one of my childhood dreams by driving the Nurburgring, a racing circuit in Germany. I've been into cars since I was a little kid and raced on that track for countless hours on video games.

A few years ago, I went to Europe with my uncle and did four laps in a 3-series BMW. It was a warm morning in late March without a single cloud in the sky, it was perfect. One of the greatest experiences of my life, no doubt.

Nope; didn't happen quite the way I wanted it to. Instead, I got lucky.
Merry Christmas. :)

Well sir, when I was growning up, I always wanted a pinball machine. I got one for Christmas when I was 11, wow what a day, just couldn't wait to play it. So my dad and I are putting the thing together and putting the bells on and the bumpers and the flippers and the plunger with the springs...only to find out that not all of the parts were there in the box. A very deep sadness overcame me because I was still not able to play pinball at home on my own table...but, we boxed it up and my father took it back the next day to return it for a new one that hopefully had all the parts. The pinball machine had been discontinued, and there were no others in stock anywhere...so he got me a snowmobile suit instead.

I never forgot that day, probably never will...now when I see a particular knife come across the exchange that I've always wanted, I think back to that disappointing day in my youth, and buy that sumbitch immediately !:D

:thumbup::thumbup: Happy ending :thumbup::thumbup:

there is no sport for live swords

Tameshigiri can be a very sporting endeavor, but do not attempt without endless hours of practice.

I always wanted a Spyderco when I was younger. I achieved that goal at 16. I guess I didn't aim very high.

To be perfectly honest, I can't remember any childhood dreams that I had regarding stuff. Some people make it out like they've got crystal clear memories of things from long ago, but all I've got are vague blurs that I can barely recall.

Nope. I'm still looking for the fancy OTF that Eric Roberts had in the movie The Specialist. I have tried to find out what knife that is for years but to no avail.

Oh, yeah! Her name is Kathy, and I have gotten to live with her for 43 years and counting.

I studied Shotokan for 7+ years when I was a kid. I too wanted a ninja sword, so my mom bought me a cheap "wall hanger" sword, but I didn't care about the quality because I was a kid and it was a freakin' sword!

Also, growing up I played the game "metal gear solid" and the main character "snake" had a 1911 for his main weapon. I never knew that the 1911 was a real gun until I was nearly done with high school:o and when I found out, I had to have one! Unfortunately, Illinois law didn't allow me to have one until I was 21, so I waited patiently. Eventually I ended up getting a Springfield Range Officer, and it looks exactly like the one from "Metal Gear Solid". I won't lie, whenever I shoot it, a small part of me feels like a kid pretending to be "snake" on a tactical mission:D it's kind of a weird version of nostalgia!

As a very lonely kid, I watched a lot of war movies alone during the school-week. I really liked the M40 rifles, and when I got to shoot one a year or two back it felt like I was reliving the movies I used to stare at endlessly as a young kid. I've always also wanted to shoot a Barrett M82, which is next on my list.

Yep, same feeling!

A local gun shop by me had a Barrett in stock for like $10,000! Man that thing was massive; it's literally a cannon with a bipod! I don't even know where I'd shoot that thing around here:confused:, most ranges around here won't even let you shoot .50AE:eek:.
