Did you ever got a knife just for the looks?

Hello, the scenario goes like this:
You see this knife. You like the way it looks. And you feel the urge to have it. You already have your trusty EDC which jumps at every cutting chore. You know (deep inside) that you actually don't need another knife. You know that this new knife will never take the place of your EDC. Yet... you finish by buying it.

So did it happen to you? It happens to me all the time ;)

Um, yeah. The most recent one that comes to mind is my Kershaw Echo. Not as happy with it as I thought I would be, but still a good knife. Of course, I was a little put off when I saw CHINA stamped on the handle, but I digress...

I will be soon, after I get a few other monitary obligations taken care of.

First were William Henry's.They kinda' all look the same to me now though.Still nice.

I've done the same. My last one I found unquantifiable, illogical and unreasonable to get. Still, a BM 940SBT went home with me one day just because it looked 'cool.' I got lucky as it turned out to be a great knife (even wearing it right now).

Yup - just did that last week. I was at the mall and dropped by the knife shop just to "check" and see if any of the new Spydie Byrd line had shown up out of some miracle (it seems to take forever to get stuff up here  ) They had two but both were out of stock. I was a little disappointed, but not that much - I knew that if they were here, one of the other shops would definitely have it. Lo and behold, there was a Buck/Strider 887SBT Police Advocate. With hearing so much about the Buck/Striders, I, of course, had to pick it up and play ;) Despite the fact it's a combo edge, and I prefer PE, I told my friend, if they had one in a box, I would probably get it. Darned, if she didn't have one there  I really shouldn't have bought it - I'm leaving in a couple of days for an 8 ball competition in Winnipeg, and "should" have kept that credit card in my wallet for "extra". Now, the 887 is in my pocket :D Also did the same thing when I bought my Spydie Paramilitary a few weeks ago, I had already purchased it, and was walking out the store, and decided to take a "last look". This store (not the same one) only had a couple of the high end Benchmades, and darned if they didn't have a Mini-Grip there, and darned if it wasn't PE  Yup - happens all the time. I am getting better, though. I can actually go into a blade shop and NOT buy something about once every 4 times :D

Oh Yeah!

I was fascinated with the fodler that Anthony Hopkins carries in the movie "The Edge", but I can't afford a Brian Lyttle custom, so I bought a Buck 110 Custom with Elk scales because it looked just like it and I could afford it.

Now 36 Buck 110's latter.........

Yes. The first custom I ever bought was just for looks. I got it from the A.G. Russell catalog solely because I liked the way it looked in the add.

It was an ok knife but nothing to write home about though. The liner lock would fail by pushing on the blade spine with light pressure but I managed to take it apart and fix that by increasing the tension of the leaf spring. It was a good knife for a few years after that but I guess it had better been for nearly $300.

MT Vector, looks awesome in the ads until you get one and see how small it is. Still looks neat I guess.

Yes...Two that come to mind:

*Kershaw Trooper.
*REKAT Sifu.

I have two knives that I bought purely on the cool factor alone: the Cuda Maxx and the BM630. I knew when I bought 'em that they'd probably never see any pocket time (too damn big), but they were just too badass not to own. :)

Any time anyone buys a damascus Sebenza, it's based on looks. Same thing with many other Damascus knives. If we didn't buy knives based on looks, all knives would probably use micarta handles.

Cold Steel's 6" Ti-lite. I bought it because its little cousin is just about my favorite EDC. I thought about carrying it but (probably wisely) decided not to for a variety of reasons.

The CUDA Maxx with the spearpoint blade I might have bought too. But after my Ti-Lite experience I know that I am not going to be carrying the Maxx around with me to use, so if I bought it it would just be for looks.

What I really want is a production version of Mr. Ralph's 4" Maxx, spearpoint blade, Ti framelock. That would be useful and SWEET.

I was intrigued by the looks of the Spyderco Harpy and Merlin. Bought them and they still sit in their boxes.
