Did you go with Microsoft DOTD - Free Windows 10?

Back at the first post - I'm surprised nobody said anything about the background picture.

I admit it's on the geeky side but I thought that wannabe Unicorn fat arse rhino was an hilarious metaphor for Windows 10.

The world has gone completely geeky if you ask me.

I didn't catch the metaphor, a little slow I reckon but I get it now, well done.
Ok so I had to look up metaphor to see what the heck it was, I'm a little smarter now than I was a minute ago.

Rhinestones are more like white trash unicorns.:D

I see the humor in the picture. I must admit I missed it at first.

To be honest I was a pencil necked geek when I started in IT, now I'm more of... What's a cute way of saying "fat drunk?"

Ummm full figured connisieur of liquor?

I spent too much paint on you, had you pegged as a viking neanderthal. I must be losing my profiling skills.

Help me, I'm drawing a blank here, your family heritage? I know it but I'm forgetting, my mind is a blank slate.

Awwww, Mongolian. Surely they don't got no computers in Mongolia? Say it ain't so.

Naw, that's the missus .

Funny you should mention heritage. My dad always said he was was 100% French. His last name is french, his grandparents spoke French and his ancestors came from Canada. He always looked down on my mother's sides "American mutt" mixed heritage .

He takes a DNA test that tells you where you come from. Turns out he's mostly Irish and Spanish with some English, Scandinavian, and Eastern European thrown in. 0% French. So much for his racial purity!

Cute - As far as DNA purity - I wouldn't dare to say French Canadians are any better. I think your Dad missed the boat. No offense but pun intended.

Your wife's a Mongolian Viking?

I had a friend in High School always telling polish jokes endlessly. All came to a halt when his momma told him he was about 70-80% Polish himself.

He understood it upside down. When you are one yourself, it makes it more politically correct to joke about it.

My momma told me "you're a thick mick and a dumb pollack" and those are the words I've lived by.

My wife took that DNS test, came up 80% Mongolian with some Yakut,Chinese and South East Asian . But she was also a little European, a little Middle Eastern, and a little Native American.

I didn't know we could take DNA tests to know the % of our origins. Interesting.

Just because I've seen it before.

The original DNA testing started as a research project by National Geographic. They are building a research database with the results. Originally it was something like $75, but their charge has gone up now up to $199. Ancestry.com is also offering the testing for $99 now.

Nooooooooooo!!! All my hero's are geeks? If Bookie signs in and says he invented the Blue Ray I'm gonna hurt myself.

I studied Computer Networking and programming in college. But was a avid outdoors man. That's partly why I never graduated. Spent more time preparing for the next trip and not enough time pounding the books. LOL! Not sure what that makes me. he he.

Got Windows 10 on a spare hard drive on my work computer. Also have Windows 7 on there for work. When I want to play with Windows 10, I swap cables so that the Windows 10 drive boots and the Windows 7 drive is completely off (data and power cables are disconnected). . .

Am thinking of installing it to a dedicated computer so that I can use it more frequently. My spare computer is much faster then my work computer. Along with being able to spend more time playing (when I'm not working of course), I'd also be able to test more things out do to having more horse power as it were. I just need to get my hands on a larger hard drive.

First off, I kind of like the new Start Menu, the live tiles are cool. I like the weather app and a few others, plus the fact that the other apps are organized alphabetically. Personally I wish they would go back to the Windows 9x-XP way of organizing the Start Menu and also have the Live tiles. I miss being able to assign a Keyboard short cut to icons in the start menu. On my Windows 7 computers, I have 3 to 6 keyboard shortcuts assigned for stuff like Winamp, Chat programs, Web browsers, Calculator, and other frequently used programs.

My work computer is an AMD E-350 APU, ultra low power 1.6 Ghz Dual core system with 4GB of ram. Think Tablet PC CPU in a desktop. The Spare computer is an AMD Athlon X2 4200+, 2.7Ghz Dual core CPU with 4GB of ram. Needs a hard drive. Has On board video (Chipset) with a 128MB of Dedicated video ram. Was my mom's computer till a few months ago. I wanted to install windows 7 on the machine, instead my bother bough her a new Mother board, GPU, SSD and Ram (DVD, case and Monitor got reused). Guess I could swipe her old 160GB HDD. .

Mom's new system is an AMD Athlon 5350 SOC (System on a chip, CPU, GPU, and support chips). As far as CPU horse power it's close to the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, but at only 25 watts or less. But it's so responsive, more so then a Q6600 could ever dream of. For her, it's great. She got a performance upgrade and is drawing less power. I think her machine draws an average of 13-15 watts. I'd love to throw Windows 10 on that machine.

Wildmanh a computer geek? This is tough to swallow. This is depressing.

I thought you didn't know how to post a picture? I need to go lie down now.

Lmao.....Mr. B. You need to join the crowd. I've got books, tapes, and course programs to loan. If you're ever so inclined...:)

Yeah, I'm a computer geek, just don't talk about it much. Most of the time, I'd rather come here to talk about Camping, Hiking, Knives, Survival, and other outdoorsy things.

I know how to post pictures, I just forget to do it. Went to Huntington Reservoir twice with family this summer, still have not posted pictures. :foot: Last weekend I was up Fairview Canyon helping the scouts with their 50 mile hike/backpacking trip. Was only there 2.3 out of 6 days, but got tons of pictures. One of these days I'll post some. LOL!

Back on Topic: My main computer qualifies for a free upgrade to Windows 10. The download and install kept failing. Found some info on Microsoft's Message board about the issue, which included a fix. Components are downloading right now. Here's a link to the info: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...0/9d69a99b-1851-4464-b10b-e69946993e78?auth=1

Windows 10 failed to install error Code 80240020

What this error means is, your Windows 10 installation folder is unfinished and/or corrupted. Now, how do you fix that?
1. Go into "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and delete everything in that folder.
2. Now, run the command prompt as an administrator. Type in "wuauclt.exe /updatenow".
3. Go to your Control Panel > Windows Update and your Windows 10 should start re-downloading from scratch, hopefully without flaws this time.
Good Luck! ;)
