my "new" cara cara g-10 arrived last night from bladematrix and it feels like i was sold a used knife. check it out.

couldn't get a good pic but there's a nasty scrape about half down the spine. you can sorta see the notch at the end of it.

here's the clip, mounted on the wrong side, and look at it.

so, is it the chinese quality or did i get screwed by bladematrix? they also sent me the wrong machete, but i don't care about that so much.

That is definitely not a new knife. It certainly looks used.

I have purchased several new byrds and they all arrived in great shape.

If you purchased that as new, I would return it for sure.

That's definitely a used knife... The fact that bladematrix would send something like that is unbelievable... Email them, send it back, do whatever you have to do to get a new one. That is not a knife that should be shipped as new.

wow i would be pissed. it looks like someone that works there swaped out their old cara cara and swiped the new one

Yeah, that is DEFINITELY a used Cara Cara.

I ordered mine from GP Knives, and it came in pristine condition, no scratch on the blade, no worn-out clip, and no gunk in the knife.

I would contact them immediately and get your money back or have it exchanged. Make them pay the return shipping too. They messed up your entire order.

well, i called em up, they don't like pickin up their phones. when i did speak to someone, he was professional and courteous and offered to replace it. no plain edges in stock. i told him something of comparable value would do so he's sending me a boker subcom instead. when it arrives, i send this knife back.

i'm not sure i'll get another byrd. it's a nice tool, no question of that, but big folders have fewer uses and my jyd2 has proven very pleasing.

and here's the wrong machete. my first cold steel.

You flat got ripped off!!

I second the knifeworks vote, I also use knivesplus regularly. And I will gracefully overlook the fact that you seem to prefer the JYD over the Cara Cara.

That sure looks like a used knife to me. I would not shy away from the Byrds though. I'm more than pleased with my G-10 Cara Cara. If you're thinking smaller try out a meadowlark. In my opinion you can't buy a better knife in that price range period.

I've bought several knives from www.newgraham.com and have always got what I ordered. They also have byrd knives.
I've also e-mailed them with questions, and they have always responded with the answer I needed within a few hours. They're a good company to deal with, with good prices too.

I own that same knife and they definately don't come out of the package looking like that. I even got a discount on the display because they couldn't find the package. I t still looked brand new. You got a used knife.

USED.

This is why I never order from any place that has X's or Z's in their names. Give me good old-fashioned New Graham or Knifeworks.
