Did your Traditional knife get a workout today? -Part II

B Bigburly912 - lovely knives indeed.

🤞🏻 and your elbow heals very soon.

Particularly love the one on the left - do you know the wood.? (perhaps Koa or Ringed Gidgee…)

A piece of Osage Orange, just decided to whittle it a bit. Going to make it really thin and see if it flies like a boomerang. I just started on this.View attachment 3081059View attachment 3081061
So how did that work out?
Speaking of whittling,
I fitted a handle to my new billhook.

I know Horace Kephart's jackknife had a blade equal to whittling seasoned hickory, but I like a fixed blade for dry hardwood. And my first actual use of my Kansbol was very satisfactory.

How quick does Osage orange dull your knife. Does it have to be green before you can whittle on it. I tried to cut a piece that was dried with a Case trapper and gave up. My knife was sharp enough to cut cedar but wouldn’t touch Osage orange. That stuff makes the best slate turkey calls I’ve ever used if you’re in an area they haven’t heard it before.

This morning I built a privacy screen around my back porch using some 2x4s and corrugated vinyl sheets I had laying around. The Antonini electrician’s knife is my indispensable companion for projects like this - the punch is perfect for starting screw holes. Here is a staged picture after the fact, showing some of the tools employed:

Also employed, but not shown, is some mildly inappropriate language. I’m not proud of that, but, sometimes things just won’t go together correctly without it…
