  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Didn't Survive

This is very sad. The only thing I can think of that hasn't already been mentioned, and something I have no experience with, is one of those personal locator beacons you see advertised everywhere. I don't know if it would work 60 feet underground though.

That's a damn shame. Sometimes, even with all of the technology, skills, and tools, tragedies like this will happen.

Takes a brave/desperate person to end their own life in such a circumstance.

It is a sad story, but one of the risks anybody takes when leaving their front door. Lets face, many of us will likely die in a car crash on the way to or coming back from work. He died in an unusual circumstance. I can certainly understand his final act. Actually, almost nice to know he could make that decision on his own.

I think that the pain kill the will, the and of the desire to live kill him.
Is difficult to believe that if he had a wife and children waiting for him at home...

I really don't see the point to finish you live just like that.
Without knowing the past and present of this man the rest is just speculation.

The main thing here has already been stated, "LET SOMEBODY KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND WHEN YOU WILL RETURN!!" His friend found him shortly after he realized he was missing. Chances are others knew where he'd be then, they just didn't know he was missing.

Then HAVE A WHISTLE along would be the other safeguard. If somebody is in the area looking because they know something is wrong, it's just a matter of signaling to them and something like a FOX 40 is worth its weight in gold.

There's nothing wrong with hunting alone if there are safety nets in place. Chances are his friend would have found him within hours of the incident had he let him know how long he'd be gone and then didn't phone. It's when the safety nets aren't in place things end up like this story.

A 20 meters hidden under brushes, that's almost a trap. When it comes to survival situation it hardly gets worst than that. He may have got rescued if he had left indication but honestly from where he was not sure the search party would have found him in time.
Hope the guys who left the hole uncovered get prosecuted.

Is it possible to make a wire antenna for the mobile phone? Is there such a thing in the market?
Something you attach to your mobile and chuck to the surface to make a phone call
If it is possible, this idea can help save lives under rubble when buildings go down. Or maybe this poor guy.
