BTW, I'm serious.

I hate to call it quits on any steel, but I'm getting tired of wasting time trying to get great performance out of a steel that just inherently does not have a good "timbre".
If I decide to "put up the white flag" with regards to this steel, rest assured, my friend, that "Ashokan-Claus" will take care of you. However, Santa has to spread the joy to all his hammer-swingin' buddies.

How about this? Bring your steel to Ashokan, and take advantage of the amassed knowledge that will be present to help try to "figure it out". I think that would be a very interesting side-talk honestly.

Good idea; however, right now, every time I even think about this steel, my blood pressure goes up to 260.
