Difference between Black Paper and G10?

Some of you know I work in the Gas Fired Turbine industry. Here we use most all of the above stated Micarta types, G-10, G-11 and others. Here is some basic info just take a little time and scroll down. It explaines the diffs pretty good I think.

JTT, your 100% correct Brother. It's a density thing!!! Glass and Epoxy Resin will definitely outweight say Canvas Micarta. We have used 12# sledges to pound on the end of a G-10 block to drive wedges into the Generator windings. It is some tough stuff. It will fracture cause I've done it, but that was after routine pounding with a sledge. So I feel comfortable with saying a drop now and again, or a bang or two with a baton you will be good to go. I would also say that you will knock the tube fasteners loose first.

I'm too lazy to look them up, but I've seen many more reports of lose scales (tube fastener failure) than I have of broken scales- micarta or G10...

One of the scales came lose (but did not break) when Noss beat on a FFBM with a sledge hammer in his "knife test."
