Greetings Crew

I am building an Anglo-Saxon broken back seax and would like to put ram horn scales on it.

Culpepper & Co/Knifehandles.com offers interior and exterior horn scales.

Besides the look, is there any difference between the two like toughness and such?

My guess is that they are the same, but won't hurt to ask ;)

Any information greatly appreciated.

Thank You

I thought from the question topic, you might mean the difference between wild and domestic ram horn. The domestic sheep horn when boiled and pressed tends to stay as pressed. The wild horn (in my experience, desert bighorn), goes back to its original shape even when epoxied to G10. Hateful stuff.

I don't see any problem with or difference in either interior or exterior horn. The exterior gives a better and more interesting grip, in my opinion.

Culpeppers & Co's rams horns I was looking at are Himalayan (supposed to be the best) and they are not acting like domestic sheep horn with twisting ad such, according to several sources including Culpeppers' description also.

I had the same thought on exterior for grip and look. Looks like the interior has amber like appearance when polished. Hard decision to make really which to go with, hehe
Both look really pretty.

Thank You

The exterior is far more durably, but with the interior it is possible to get a polished finish.

It's not what it's made of or what you make it with: it's how good it is when finished.

Thank you, Yes, I did noticed some beautifully polished interior horn handles, although those exterior ones do have a quite a character ;)

Thank You
