Hi!

What's difference between ETS Satin Jack and Satin Jack TAC?
I've looked them up and they seem to have similar dimensions.

The ETS SJ TAC is just a small re-release of the SJtac.
It is very close to the original release of the knife....

The BIG difference is, the SJTAC did not have magnum scales as an option.

As I recall, the recent BATAC was the first knife to have magnum scales as an option for the TAC style handle.

(not counting the HOSJTAC-LE, which utilized tiger hide magnum scales or other special releases)

.

I apoplogize for my stupidity, but what's a "magnum scale"?:o
Is it a "thicker handle" or what...?

bluka94, yes magnum scales are thicker than standard scales. Especially when put up for sale, people will specifically list their knife as either standard or magnum scales. Some people (myself included) can be pretty picky about which type of scales they want on their handles.

That is the coolest SJTAC pic ever. SJTAC pyramid...me likey! I'm envisioning the thousands of little tiny slaves who had to use toothpick rollers to transport the awesome blocks of INFI during construction....it's a testament to miniature human ingenuity.

Wife thinks it looks like a Boquet of Busses...and that would be cool too. Best Mother's day boquet ever...hehe.

Stopping dropping the brown acid. :p

Magnum handles on a SJTAC are very rare. Not sure if Mags were ever used except on the Limited Edition SJTAC.

How about thickness of the a SJ's blade? Does it metter?
I found info about thickness from .187" to 0.220"? Advantage/disadvantage with different bladethickness? Which is to preffer and why?
I've found a couple of SJs here on the forum and very nice guys are selling them, but I want more input about SJ. I intend to use it within swedish military as allround knife in different countrys and climate...
Expirience with Satin Jack, anybody?

Thanx,

the SJ is like a beefier, cooler, and better version of my Ratmandu. and i love my ratmandu to pieces. if you managed to get one it would serve you well as an all around knife and you would develop a bond fast

The HOGSJTLE and the assorted customs built off it were 0.220" thick and had full convex primary grinds. I didn't really pay attention to the ETS versions, but it appears that they may have full flat grinds. The Combat grade SJT was a pseudo-saber convex grind on a 0.187" blank, if that makes sense.

I don't think mags were offered online, but they had at least one at the Knob Creek sale (I bought it, tigerhide mags on a muddy SJTAC) and I know that at least one was sold in Eugene, but I can't search to find the post.

My CG SJTAC is 0.20" with a very subtle saber convex grind, i.e. the saber is hard to see. It seems that different runs of the CG SJTACs ranged from 0.187 to 0.20.

Is there any risk for blade to crack if it's 0.187" thick? The knife will not be used in "Noss4-style" :)

that's funny... ;)

no, no real worries. it's INFI, thin or fat - it'll do the job. it's all about personal preference, feel, weight, etc.

If it's just personal preference then it's allright...
I also wonder if SJLE are the only ones with thicker blade, i.e. 0.220 or is it possible find a "standard" SJ with thicker blade too?
