Difference between the GEC #77 and the new #86

I wonder if we will be seeing Barlows on this frame. I don't see why not. Though I'd be curious if we might see a new bolster stamp if that becomes the case.

Probably NF. The 15’s and 14’s are both TC, so the 86 being NF would even the playing field.

It could be a chance for GEC to do a Barlow of their own, instead of using Barlow-specific tooling owned by other individuals. We might not get the awesome cover choices and creativity that we always get from Mike and Charlie, but it could open things up for a much larger Barlow run than the very limited SFO’s we usually see.

I like this idea.

I'm hoping that the 86 will be a true Jumbo Jack although they make no mention of it being a Jumbo. Jumbo's start at 3 7/8" and range to 4 1/4", they are big solid knives,
Pictures of a 77 and a vintage Empire 3 7/8" Jumbo, gives you an idea or the all around large dimensions of the Jumbo pattern, originals are very hard to find.

Thanks for the comparison. The 86 will be noticeably larger in hand than a 77. BTW, that's a very nice Yankee Jack in NF trim ;)

^ That’s what caught my eye when I saw this future pattern. I can’t wait till these come out.

Thanks Augie, after all that fretting about fractions of an inch, as they say, a picture paints a thousand words!

Wow. That Empire is a big one. Maybe too big for me to EDC, but with the clip/coping combo of the 86, it will be an excellent outdoor knife.

I got the impression from Bill at GEC that the #86 would be a heavier gauge knife, leaning toward the "Jumbo". But we won't know until we get closer to production!

That would be fantastic Charlie, something very unique.

Is that the 86 listed on GECs site now? Was it already there and I missed it until now?

It has not been produced yet. The forum knife will be an 86 and will be made alongside the regular production run as well as whatever other SFOs might be arranged.

I for one would love a "JUMBO JACK" by GEC!!!:)

And as an aside, rounded, or longer bolsters, mentioned several posts back, add support to the blade and pivot, making a stronger knife. Tina agricultural knives use that technique in their expensive knives.
