For some reason I have just recently fallen in love with the Spyderco Poliwog... When I first saw it I thought it was kinda odd looking, but when I stumbled upon a video of it this afternoon I was completely smitten by it. I know teh SS version has gone out of production, but a new G10 model is coming out. Are there any difference between the two models besides the handle materials (which lead to a 1.5oz reduction in weight)? Looking at the specs provided by a retailer I haven't really seen anything else myself.

Looking at a video and few pics of the G10 model, I really don't think it looks nearly as interesting as the full SS original. If the scale material is all that has changed, I'd likely hunt down an original as opposed to the G10.

The original is a slick little cutter, but it (like many SS handled knives) is a lot of weight for the amount of edge you get. I look forward to the G-10 model, although I wish there were a way to put a tip-down clip on it.

Yeah, the SS is heavy for it's size comparatively, but 4.1oz for a knife isn't much when just considering it as a knife. The G-10 version doesn't seem to appeal to me at all, doesn't look as 'sexy'... But I'm a bit saddened, the SS Poli costs $100? I had thought it were in the $50ish range O.o

Ya the Lava and the Poliwog are two knives that I would LOVE to buy, but I think both of them cost about double what they are worth.

I don't dig the new version, it looks so boring now. I had the original poliwog and I loved it, I can't understand myself why I sold it.. I guess knife addiction. :(

The Lava is worth every penny. :D

Haven't handled a poliwog, but it looks really interesting. :)

Well perhaps "worth" was a poor choice of words. I personally am not willing to spend that much on a knife that small.
I agree. I'm a huge fan of just about all Spyderco knives, and I like both the Poli and Lava, but to me they are not worth the asking price. YMMV. :p

I did get mine at the discontinued price, the MSRP was higher then I would have liked.

I have seen the Poli running $90+ street price, which is still high for me for such a small knife. :o

On the other hand I have spent $100, $150 and even in one case over $200 for an OOP production knife I really wanted, that other people might have well though wasn't worth half what I paid for it. Worth is a very subjective concept. ;)

I wonder why the Poliwog/Lava do cost so much. I definitely don't think a a 2" knife should cost the same as a Millie, especially with it being produced overseas.

MSRP wise they are pretty far apart. To each his own though. I like it, I'm satisfied, but I can see how it's a lot of cost for very little knife.
