Kinda curious bout these 5 steel in particular. What's the difference between the 2 ATs versions? Also, what are anyone's thoughts on the last 3 I mentioned? Do they excel in any particular area ex. edge holding?
Ats55 has the moly removed for better fine blanking properties. That is the major diff between those two.
All the steels mention have good edge holding if properly heat treated.
A step above them IMHO is Cpm 440v and CPM 420v. I use these steels quite a bit . Good steel with excelent edge holding properties. AGAIN the heat treat makes the difference.
think you are confusing 440c with 440v... its true aisi designation is CPM-T440V- IT is a particle metallurgy steel and is far far superior it 440 a b or c......as with the 420v.....its new science.....leaving all the rest in the dark ages of the 1900s... until they come up with something better i guess....(see new star wars movie)
btw...didnt answer question....d2 is great stuff...falls into the dark ages metallugy catagory however....rusts like crazy where i live...dont know what the 10 stuff is... am liking bg42 as an all around steel...but for edge holding it doesnt come close...vanadium..the planet superman is from i think.....
