Can EVERYONE chip in and contribute :D as to what YOU think the different models are best used for what? I.E. What do you think was WB originally intended for - do-it-all knife, prying, digging, chopping metal sheets, slashing, stabbing, armor piercing, you know what I mean...?

This will benefit any first-time buyer and everyone else who's onto their next purchase.

I can comment with confidence on the DB. After owning several WB's I wanted a knife that I could carry on my person as a urban police officer. I was carrying the larger blades in my gear bag, because they would not have been accepted hanging off my patrol belt. I requested that Duane build me a knife of the same thickness and blade profile of the larger knives, but small enough that it could be carried in the front trauma plate pocket of my concealable body armor. This was back in about 1995, and the DB has changed and become more refined since then. The original had no wrap or handle, and is a pure brute, its profile looks like a stubby BT. I have used it to pry open widows, insert it between door jambs to prevent the door from being closed , and numerous utility chores. It also serves as a last ditch back-up weapon. I have also carried one of the newer ones in my current aviation assignment-it fits great in the pockets of my nomex flight suit. The blade design is for puncturing and prying, and is very strong in the tip. Duane uses the other original prototype to slam point first into concrete floors at shows and to cut metal table legs off (the Strider guys are just loved by show promoters......not) to demonstrate Strider toughness. The DB was designed as a big tool in a small package, and has found favor among operators who need a discreet blade that will perform big chores. I am very proud to have this blade named after yours truely.

Hey Ryan, I heard about the "rescue DB's". I'm glad you guys like them. 4th of July is our version of going downtown. Every amateur rocketeer is out to try and shoot us down. Hopefully altitude and speed will win the day again. Hopefully we'll see you and your unit soon. Have a great 4th-nyeti

Except, of course to you two, Nyeti and Knifebomber. Thank you both. I am surprised that you two have such great confidence for something that comes in such a small package, DB. Does either one of you have a photo of the "rescue" DB for everyone?

What about the rest of yous? :(Maybe most of you are knife collectors and therefore lack objective inputs. But I think personal inputs, real-life or not, are both welcome. Or maybe you huys are just plain shy!:(

How about something from the Strider guys? Any pointers here for us? :D

I carry the DB on my tac holster (a 6004). Like Knifebomber and Nyeti, it provides an extremely tough tool in a compact package.

Besides the obvious prying and cutting functions, it is useful to clear those Type 3 + malfunctions that sometimes occur in the M4A1's.

It is probably the most useful knife i have ever owned.

All I have so far is MH and Strider Buck spearpoint folder.
I think MH will outcut tantos, and definitely will outchop anything but PAB.
I was doing some stabbing tests with different blades and MH performed very well with that too.
On the old phonebook the number of pages penetrated in avg. was - 520 pages for MH, 460 for CRK PJ II, 440 for SOG Recondo, 409 for Busse custom bolo, etc... So, I am not exactly sure that the tanto blades will outperform MH in stabbing, though they apparently have greater lateral strength. In short I think that's a great do it all blade.

As os the folder, it's a realy tough piece. Edge holding is really good, on everything I've cut so far, includig soft and not so soft materials, such as cardboard, plastic, cables, wood. Though is I expect prolonged use I'd rather take MH which has much more comfortable handle ;) Donno how ATS-34 will perform, the one I have is BG-42, and I've thinned down the edge, so now it cuts a lot better.

So far I have an MFS and an SA. Training wheel connotations notwithstanding, the MFS is a really good general purpose outdoor knife. It is thin enough to slice well, but stout enough to withstand substantial lateral force. It chops acceptably for a knife of its size and the hollow grind will take a ferociously sharp edge. One feature of the MFS that I really like is that the grind moves diagonally across the blade. This allows for a variety of included angles, the tip being thinner(cuts flesh) and the rear area being stouter(chops wire).

The SA is a stout little guy. It has a bit less point than the AD, but a nice general purpose belly. I've thinned out the edge, especially toward the tip, put on a compound grind, and stroped it convex. For a blade that's only about 13 times as long as it is wide, it cuts pretty damn well. It works well as a splitting and chopping tool when driven (eg. with a mallet or stick) so it is effective as a wood shaping tool. It is also plenty stout for puncturing and making short cuts in softer metals. The SA would not be my first choice as a cheese slicer, but it works fine as a utility cutting tool with some edge modifications. It would probably make a very trustworthy last ditch weapon. In short, it is an extremely reliable urban survival tool which can be abused with confidence in a pinch. This comes at the price of reduced slicing ability, but that's the design intent. An SA with deeper hollow grinds and made from 3/16" or even 1/8" stock would slice very well ... but it would not be as trustworthy as a piton.

Now I have my eye on the MT ....

Dear Knife Bomber,

I was thinking that GB (Custom Folder/Tanto)would be chosen
as an issue knife for the Rescue Squadron. But anyway, I'm
glad to hear that regardless of the model, one from Strider
was chosen.
Now, about the "Rescue" DB, are there any modification made
over the regular model?

P.S. Thank you for your input at the other forum. :)

Many thanks, Knife Bomber.

I can picture the RESCUE DB just from your words.
Since you have a very special DB, would you be interested
in selling your #66 GB? :D
