It prob will never happen, but i like the para 2,,dont have one,,,,but im not sure i like the position of the lock,,,i would much perfer it in the "standard" position...just my 2 cents

So your saying you would rather have a liner lock then a compression lock? You don't own one so I would assume you never held one, if thats the case how do you know you'd prefer the liner over compression?

"

Your right i dont know,,i should not have ASSumed..

It's in an awkward position but the compression lock is incredibly strong and makes up for it.

I thought the same till I got one, for me its quicker to close a compression then a liner and frame lock sicne i dont have to change my grip.

That is the nice thing about the compression lock, your fingers are not in the blade path when you disengage it. The pivot is smooth on mine, and if it was a liner lock, I am pretty sure it would bite the back of my hands. I wasn't sure about it either until I started messing around with it. It is a very strong lock. I probably prefer the caged ball lock on the Manix 2, or BM's Axis lock for ease of use, but I like the compression lock better than a liner.

I just got my first para 2. When i got it out of the box and went to close it for the first time my reaction was "WTF, this is never going to work." I've played with it some more. I think it's an excellent lock now and once the blade/lock is a little more worn i don't think i'll have any issues, right now the lock is still a little sticky. Either way, it's in my pocket. The knife itself makes up for my first impressions of the lock. I like my military, but this thing is perfect as far as i'm concerned.

Once the lock is disengaged, it's easy to close a Compression Lock with just a flick of the wrist. A liner/frame lock takes a push of the finger or swipe across a leg on the back of the blade. I think the compression lock of the Para 2 would grow on you but there are plenty of other Spydies to choose from.

I really like the para 2 with black blade,,,gonna have to wait a bit till i clear up some cash,,as i just ordered a tilt...

thanks for the replies so far!

When I first saw the Para I thought the lock would be difficult to get used to. It's not, and I prefer it to liner/framelocks now because my fingers are always out of the way when closing the blade.

I have both a a Para 1 and 2 and I must say I'm quite fond of the compression lock. I've always though SPyderco should make a smaller version of the military. Like a para with a liner lock too. What I'd really love would be a para with a titanium frame lock. I love the idea of the titanium military, I'm just not interested in a knife that size.

On my para1, the lock side liner broke at the cut out.....simply by opening and closing it. No para's for me, thank you! It was only about a year old. Plus, Spyderco wouldn't cover it.

What did they say was the reason when you called to see if it was covered? It seems hard to believe it wasn't manufacturing error.

Can't do pics. It only broke on one side of the oval cut-out, so it hasn't broken in two. When it happened it felt like there was grit trapped in the mechanism. I couldn't blow it out and I knew reassembly wouldn't be a problem, so....like a fool, I took it apart and discovered the crack. I then put the parts in a sandwich bag....and sent it in. They said they couldn't be sure it didn't crack when I disassembled it. LOL They recommended that I discard the knife as it was now unsafe. And they offered me 30% off retail any knife from the Spyderco store. I'm use to getting their knives cheaper than that! They sent it back and I reassembled it. Now it just sits in drawer. I wonder if I had handled it differently if they would have covered it.

Compression lock is fine and dandy - but everyone in the whole wide world knows the Para 2 would be fantastic with a standard backlock

Hate lockbacks. Will never a knife with one again.

Give me the compression lock. I wouldn't like it as much if it had a back lock.

It seems many people equate the compression lock to a liner lock which it is not. The compression lock is one of the top 3 strongest lock designs made. I won't buy a liner lock but would buy a compression lock all day long. I would rather an AXIS lock but the compression lock is a good runner up.
