A question gentlemen, I ran across somewhere some information that the old infi was harder than the newer stuff. The poster never really went into details and I have only seen this mentioned once. Is there any truth to this? And, how much difference are we talking about?
Thanks,
Josh

The Apocypha tell us that the 1/300 SHBM were heat treated to 60+ Rockwell.

Legend or received truth?

Yes, it's true.

It's been a while, so I might be misrembering exactly, but I think I recall the original INFI was hardened to 60-62 (and was actually right around 60) and the more recent INFI is hardened 58-60 (and is actually right around 58).

62 and 58 is what I remember also..I think yoi're right on.

So, when did old, harder INFI become new, less hard, but still freakin' awesome, INFI?

if my memory serves me correct.....

not all the old straight handled were harder, but special run like the 1/300 were?

Not all the new stuff is softer either. Remember the BAD is in the low 60's as well and was made harder as a slicer.

Did anyone mention that "YOU SUCK". :p

Thanks for the info, now show us the pics.

yea, he does suck, I've seen a pict of his fbm, he sucks big time! :) If it wasn't for him, I'd probably have more, lol

Yeah, now it's 58-60 for most (the BADs were an exception), but I do believe that it really does range from 58 to 60 instead of just being an average of 58 or so. I have had one of my Fusion-line Busses (one that is supposed to be 58 - 60 in Rockwell) measured for hardness and it was 59.8 or something like that, unless the measurement was somehow just plain wrong. The Boss Hog could confirm if he pops in this thread.

WOW! The Boney ADs were 64, I believe.

BADs are 60 to 62 Rc.

Come on Jerry, you know it would be a KILLER COOL blade... you drunk enough yet? :p

And that piece is a survival saw made from a band saw blade that Jerry made it to go along with the WASP.

I love the pictures some of these people who have been collecting a long time pull out of the woodwork. Makes me choke just looking at all of those blades.

Awesome......
