How do different arts in the FMA size sticks to the individual-And how and why is this done-Thank you for your time Nightwing...

We usually go with a 28" stick, but other arts(like Pekiti Tirsia?) hold the arm out to the side, with the fingers pointing down, and measure out from the armpit to the palm. I believe this is done to allow the maneuverability to allow the stick to be spun "thru" the armpit. The idea is to get maximum reach, but not so big that it gets in the way.

Some measure from armpit to wrist, armpit to finger tips, ground to wrist, or just use 26" or 28" sticks. I like to train with sticks of different lengths so I can get used to the different ranges. We use 27" sticks in our school, but sometimes I'll use my 29" X 1 1/4" KIL sticks.

It destroys the smaller diameter sticks, so I don't use them that much when doing heavy partner drill training.
