Differentially heat treated production knives?

Hanwei makes a "tactical tanto"

James, that Hanwei tactical tanto looks interesting. Although I have never really been partial to those narrow Japanese guards. They are too narrow to give me confidence.

What about Ranger Knives? I keep reading that they are tough knives. Are they differentially hardened?

No need for differential hardening with 5160. That stuff is insanely tough. I'm pretty sure Justin of Ranger Knives only considers "disuse" as abuse, too. Definitely worth investigating and he's made quite few custom knives based on customers' requests and drawings.

Definitely not production knives. Every Nepalese Khukuri is hand made.

They are hand made, but several of the makers make a range of the same styles (Chiruwa Ang Khola, Garud Ang Khola, WWII, M43, Sirupati, Kobra, Pen Knife, etc). They are production knives even if the makers aren't quite using CNC mills.

Here's a snippet off the Ranger Knives website:
"The Ready Detachment series is made from quarter inch thick 5160 that has been heat treated and triple tempered to 58 RC."
