buggy leaf springs he turned into tire irons. since I have no use for tire irons thinking I will just make a couple knifes .
I know that would make him smile, after all, what better to do with an old out dated
hand made tire iron then to make a skinner to hand down to the next generation.
Not sure of the edge or the finish steel will take but it is tuff as it gets, try as I might I couldn't get any of them to bend.

I know it would make him happy, he was a blacksmith. and turning what most would think of as scrap into a useful tool,
well, Broken leaf spring into a tire iron, tire iron into skinning knife ;)
anyway what do you guys think?

That could be 5160 steel which is great for knife steel! I think it would be cool to turn those into a couple nice blades.

I would anneal it and get to cutting and grinding.

Then heat treat it yourself or send it out to be done

Making knives from stuff like that with memories have a lot of value to a family

Thought you would like to see the old create after a bit of cleaning
and a rub down with oil. it has a date stamped on it 6-29, after finding that
I thought it was best to bring it in, Ill most likely use it for knife storage.

Awesome find, and just as awesome of an idea. Do please post pics :)
Nice work on the crate
Or you could put beer in it :D

My experience with buggy springs and such is that they fall in the 1070-1090 range. Treat them as 1084 or 1095, and you should be good.
